EDC in damage control mode

From WPIX:

Some business owners in Willets Point were facing eviction Tuesday morning. But now the city says it will be working out an agreement.

Redevelopment of the area known as the Iron Triangle next to Citi Field has been a source of controversy for years. The city has purchased some property and is negotiating with others. A few owners with businesses on what it is now city property were sent eviction notices last month by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).

When PIX 11's Greg Mocker heard about the possible evictions, he headed to the area.

The Economic Development Corporation, which is in charge of the project, initially told Mocker: "When the City acquired properties at Willets Point for redevelopment, it transferred the leases to HPD to manage until redevelopment begins. The City has set aside $3 million in relocation assistance for tenant businesses that will be available once relocation is necessary. Out of a total of more than 100 leases managed by the City at the Willets Point site this issue pertains to 2 former commercial property owners who negotiated sales with the City for their property, and then executed lease-back agreements with the City that allowed them to remain on the property as a tenant paying rent to the City for the length of their new lease. The tenants who received the 30-day notices have leases that have expired and have not contacted the City to renegotiate a new lease. HPD is serving notice that as previously agreed upon, they must vacate the property by that date."

After additional calls from Mocker, other New York Media and NYC Council Member Julissa Ferreras, the city issued said it intends to work out an agreement.

Heh.

Evan is the spawn of the largest (in more ways than one) tweeder in Queens history. If you took your head out of your butt, you may have figured that one out!

What I wanna know is how Bloomberg is going to get away with building luxury condos / hotels whatever on CONDEMNED PROPERTY! That property is so toxic - it's like a nuclear war took place - I don't even think anything could GROW there.

There is SUPPOSED to be a Federal LAW against building on TOXIC land . . . this is so unbelievable.

"make everything fresh & new"

you're kidding . . . that would take at least 100 years! People don't understand just HOW toxic that place is - especially people from ELSEWHERE - like Bloomberg.

Obviously - they don't friggin' care about people's health - only how much money they can make off of this.

Funds for overseas wars should be diverted to cleaning up the Willets Point area. Queens is lost, move out of NYC while you still can before the mongrels get you!!!!

We are now living in a State where the powerful elected officials condem property that the Government allowed to become a blight in the first place (I believe the businesses, at least the property owners paid their taxes) and then want to give it to their friends to "Develop" FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE COMMUNITY.

At what point do we say enough already? NIMBY is coming soon to your B.Y. if we dont wake up and put an end to these abuses of power.

While I agree Willets point is disgusting, there needs to be a better solution. Why is the City not being held accountble for not providing services and upgrades to this community? What happened to those tax dollars?

I did not say "BITTERMANT" but that was funny, especially with the history our organization has with her.

How ironic, a city agency called the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is handing out eviction notices to businesses that were established generations ago, decades before Bloomberg crawled out from under his Boston rock and decided to recreate OUR city in his OWN greedy image.

Got a wonderful laugh at the report of how the rest of the country views Bloombag The Douchebag in today's paper.

Bloombag you douchebag, you don't stand a chance outside this revolting city you made. Your legacy will destroy you. You are the laughing stock of America.

Ha HA HA HA ha ha HA HA!!!!!!!!!

He said it was funny because of the accidental email his civic association recieved from an MTABT official quoting Mrs. Bitterman as saying "I know that Centola is just stirring things up, and I am a nice woman, but if I saw that man injured, I would step over his prone body and refuse to call for help".

This woman wrote the survey that we opposed to due to its biased wording, and she sent it out anyway. How is she to be unbiased to our Safety issue when she feels this way toward the President of the Civic association that has been demanding action.

When Centola read the email at the CB meeting, King Kelty said that he had a personal thing against him and that Centola should have talked to him and not read it at the meeting.

When the woman who sent the email was questioned, she was mortified and apologized for sending the email but couldn't believe Bitterman would say these things. She meant to send the email to her bosses, not the Malba Gardens Civic Association.

When the organization asked for an investigation from both the CB and Hallorans office, They both need to step up and do something, yet no one has done a thing. Is our councilman in cohoots , or jsut scared of the CB?

Bitterman needs to be dealt with accordingly.

I posted something yesterday and am dissapointed that it was removed.

I found it:

"Our Civic association accidentaly recieved an email quoting Mrs. Bitterman as saying that if she "saw Centola lying there injured, she would step over his prone body and refuse to call for help" when he read this email to the CB, she gasped pretending not to know anything about it, and King Kelty said it was a personal thing against HIM! and Centola should have brought it up to him, not read it to the CB. When the woman from the MTABT who sent the email was questioned, she was mortified and apologized saying she could not believe Bitterman would say such things and didn't mean to email us, but her boses.

We have asked Halloran and the CB to investigate and take proper action, this was almost a year ago and still no investigation that we know of. Halloran may be sleeping at the wheel or afraid of the CB, who knows.

The fact is this woman composed the biased survey we objected to and then makes comments that threaten the safety of the man who is the leader of the Civic association trying to protect the safety of the residents of his community. She obviously has ill will toward him, how can she be non biased to our safety concern?

Halloran has repeatedly ignored our requests for an investigation.

James"

I'm sorry, I don't know why it disappeared.
