LIC condo wins design award

From Miss Heather:

Remember that phlegm-colored condominium a bong’s toss from the Pulaski Bridge in Long Island City called the L Haus? Well, I almost forgot about it. Thankfully we have Autumn Sol to thank for reminding us that this nondo-in-the-making received a very dubious distinction...

Since the Queens Plaza parking garage is gone, L Haus may be the winner after all!

I'd take the parking garage over this crap any day.

Pretty disgusting on the inside as well.

There are some nasty McMansions near me that might qualify as Queens Fugliest. I think we should have a real contest!

It won out against some pretty stiff competition. I would stop by to look at it, but I might go blind.

Whwn developers slap on foreign-sounding "Haus" or "Pointe" to their buildings, you can tell they're being pretentious and inflating the price.

Is it actually, "L Haus", I can just imagine one of my British cousins... That house, it looks like bloody 'ell.

At least its not boring. So sick of the instantly stale architecture that's going up.

If you look in the left side of the photo, you can see part of the Union Rat. I believe this award was given by disgruntled union workers, who were not working on the job. Certainly, a discriminating bunch.

I would not have too much sympathy for non-union scabs. God knows whether they are properly trained, legal, tax-paying residents.

Furthermore, if someone cuts corners in their hiring, who knows what else they cut corners on?

I worked for American Society of Civil Engineers and one of the top forensic engineers in America, and head of the society, was involved in investigating the cause of a hotel skyway collapse that killed many people.

The cause? Variance from the original plans. Unauthorized fasteners were substituted to save a few pennies. They were not strong enough to do the job and the result was deaths and million dollar lawsuits.

The father of quality control, Demming, was an American, but only the Japanese listened to him. That is one reason why our industrial base is shot to hell. Our cars have sucked for years, and now construction is going the same way.
