Food fight at Richmond Hill High School

From the Daily News:

Word went out on the Internet the night before that this year's annual prank day at Richmond Hill High School would be one to remember.

Bedlam erupted just before 10 a.m. when eggs and anything else students thought to bring to school started flying, witnesses said.

"They threw rice, barbecue [sauce], flour, baby powder, Silly String, shaving cream - everything you could imagine," said sophomore Jose Dominguez, 16.

Stephen Gonsalves, 18, was arrested for possession of a knife. Nine other students, ages 16 to 19, were arrested for criminal mischief, trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Stupid ideas can now travel so much faster than common sense. Time for some computers to be moved into the living room or turned off.

The same thing happened at the high school where I teach (in Brooklyn) yesterday. For us it was a first.

I hope all of you who have decided to remove your children from Catholic Schools and place them in public schools are paying attention.

Lol Catholic School? Do you seriously think that makes a difference? Hahahahaha.

I am a graduate of both. The Catholic School kids are even worse, just a little sneakier.

The kid with the knife deserves to be arrested, but why is our society arresting teenagers for getting into food fights? That's disgusting.

Unfortunately the scale of mischief has stepped up so much that they want to nip further fights in the bud.

This was not a spontaneous high-spirited prank, but organized mayhem. I am sure that they figure information about what happened to the culprits will spread on the internet just as fast as the original messages to act up did and will stem further mischief.

In any event, threatened charges are the fastest way to get lackadaisical parents to pay attention and pay damages.

If I were the principal of any school where this happened, I'd close the cafeteria for a week. Let them throw food that their parents paid for instead of our tax money.

Education should be a privilege, not a right. Toss each of these spoiled, food tossing little bastards out on their ears. Why should they disrupt the education of kids who are there to learn. Let their parents pay for a private school. Also, let them pull the plug on the computer for these underage miscreants.
