"Idiots" is a good description

From the Daily News:

An NYPD helicopter hovered above the starting line at E. 60th St. and York Ave. and it followed teams across the Queensboro Bridge to the first checkpoint at Queensbridge Park.

From Queensbridge Park, the teams raced to Lucky Mojo's Grill in Long Island City, then to the Coco 66 bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and finally to the finish line at the Public Assembly bar in Williamsburg. Teams took the opportunity to drink liberally at all the stops, spectators said.

Cops made 15 arrests for disorderly conduct, public urination and possession of a controlled substance.

We're wasting police manpower and tax dollars on this stupid shit?

Tower People.

sure you may say this is stupid, but the fact remains is that there are a lot of fellow tax payers who dont think it is and take part and they deserve the same protection. I for one think the st patricks day parade and the columbus day parade are wastes of time and resources for the city, we can't ban public assembly

Actually a permit can be denied if there is a history of crime associated with the event. Considering how small the event is and how many were caught doing wrong, it's feasible.

So is this an example of the kind of hip newbie transient population from the mid-west boonies... recently transplanted to the Queens/Brooklyn waterfront's "upscale" developments... that are supposed to "save" these "older decaying" stable hard working neighborhoods?

NO THANX...
you wannabee "artistes" etc.!

Stay in Missouri and Nebraska where you all can "cow tip" to your heart's delight!

These "yup-sters" contribute nothing solid in the long run to NYC with the exception of puking on its sidewalks!

These are all young people and like all of us were at their age, they're a little foolish. You can't put old heads on young shoulders. I hope that the ones who got arrested learn from their mistakes.

The event is really a satire based on the "Iditirod," a deadly and famous Alaskan dog-race. The parody event was created to mock animal abuse.

And there I thought it was an excuse to drink...if it was to parody animal abuse, then how come this cause is never mentioned when the event is held?

Make them hold it on a running track under the watchful eye of the Parks Department instead of deploying NYPD helicopters to watch over them. Ridiculous.

Really, I blame the NYPD for wasting their own time/money. A bunch of goofballs go run their own race & get drunk doing it - who cares? What reason do they have for wasting money flying a god damned helicopter around after these idiots? Do they follow every drunk off bedford ave at night too?

Maybe if there were public bathrooms (which bloomberg failed to deliver) no one would be pissing on the street.

And I agree, this is by no means all that different than the st. patricks day parade. It's just an excuse for people to drink in public.

This is for people to get drunk in public and get attention. Sadly, they managed to do both.

I think nowdays, more people get drunk at the Puerto Rican Day Parade and the West Indian Day Parade than on St Patrick's Day.

Definitely Tower People, treating NYC as their own private playground, looking for attention. Why is the NYPD even entertaining these jerkoffs?

It sounds like good (not so clean) fun. Lighten up!

Tell that to my kid who is going to school in a trailer and whose teacher may lose her job.

This looks like the shopping cart race that been going on 30+ years however that does not look like the Brooklyn Bridge.

Drinking , Booze sure looks like the Boonies put a twist on it.
-F idiots need to go back home !

at first I thought this was the most hilarious thing ever...but not when I read about the disorderly conduct. I saw pics on another blog...and it looks sorta like a big fraternity parade

Your just upset that you werent invited.
Bunch of stuffed assholes you are.

I heard the NYPD even deployed divers, should any Idiotarod participant fall off the Queensborough (soon-to-be Hillary R. Clinton) Bridge. What a joke!

Der Hillary R. Clinton Britch.

Ja, zat vas a gut von!

Oh, this is rich. And who exactly hands out the invitations to this? What's the application process? What are the qualifications?

Please do tell.

It's also worth noting that sometimes loony events pay for themselves in unexpected ways. Directly, many people came into NYC for this event and spent money here. Indirectly, this kind of event builds creative community and helps NYC retain its reputation as a place where crazy art happens. Not only artists crave that, but other professionals who keep this city economically viable.

I plan to enter next year with a shopping cart I will haul from the East River with my buddy, Richard Melnick, of the Greater Astoria Historical Society. As part of the Green Shores NYC and American Littoral Society's shoreline cleanup, we pull out shopping carts dumped into the East River each year.

I see a little seaweed, a cookie starfish or two... :)

Lighten up, stop being killjoys.
They're not pulling drive bys and beating old people over their heads.

I have to agree with "What I'm saying is", this actually looks like fun.

Anonymous said...

Until one of these funseekers topples out of their shopping cart, splits their head open and sues the city.

I heard the NYPD even deployed special units with hovercraft and jetpacks, should any Idiotarod participants float off course.

I heard the NYPD even hired a crack team of prairie dogs, should any Idiotarod participant go subterranean.

I heard... I heard... I heard...

With the level of tolerance displayed around here, maybe the QC Krew should be hauled off to the "mid-west boonies."

If you don't like what people here have to say, maybe you should move back to the midwest boonies.

The comment about the divers was a joke, something which obviously was lost on Wingnut.

Doesn't look like there were any invites or qualifications to join this thing. Looks like any asshole could have just shown up and participated, and it looks like they all did. That obviously explains why I, or any other fan of this blogsite, wasn't there.

The birth of irony?

Sorry last poster...
I was born and bred in NYC and have lived here all my life!

But I'm thinking of moving back to the up-and-coming Bronx,
where I spent my first 12 years.

There seems to be more spirit and brains there than I've witnessed in Queens during the last decade!

Now go and pop some "Ex-lax".
It sounds like your shit is backing up a bit!
