City continues neglect of Willets Point

The City of New York has continued to allow the streets of Willets Point to deteriorate. They have refused to fix the potholes in the streets, although taxpaying businesses there continue to operate. To recap: Some businesses have made deals to stay for up to an additional 15 years and the earliest construction is not expected to take place for another 4 to 8 years. This continued neglect on the part of the City is detrimental to commerce and in turn not economically beneficial for City Hall. The car in the above photo was stuck in that spot for more than an hour on Thursday.
Besides not repairing the streets, Sanitation will not plow or salt the roads and this in turn is causing even more accidents.
There are also several missing stop signs at the Triangle that DOT refuses to replace.

Thank you for documenting this.

It's incredible that the City is so bold as to continue its neglect, even after it has become common knowledge that improvements are necessary. There is no rational explanation for this.

Willets Point business owners should intensify their contacts with the City to develop a lengthy record of requests for repairs that go unanswered. Perhaps its possible for businesses to join the WPIRA lawsuit versus the City agencies that are responsible for the ongoing neglect.

Look to a Chinese connection.

How can Wellington Chen's friends at TDC develop the area for Asians
with a view of the junkyards?

That's what this is all about.

(Perhaps?) shady funds from the east finding their way into political campaigns
(Manes? and Ackerman? wrote the book on this) which put new officials into office who are sympathetic to keeping Willets Point "blighted" so in turn the land can be condemned via eminent domain.

why are there concrete pipes stacked on a public street?

why is Jerry for Crown double parked on a snow day?

the place is a disgrace but its the owners fault for their lack of respect for their land.

i suppose if my neighbor stored concrete pipes right on the street and double parked on a snow day i would be the city's fault..

take some responsibility for your property.

Queens Crapper said...

Crown is parked at the curb. Oh, wait, there are no curbs at WP. Thanks, NYC.

Anonymous said...

if he is parked on the "curb" then where is the white van to the right of his truck parked?

Anonymous said...

I love the stack of abandoned tires in the first shot.. I bet crapper will say the city put them there.

take a little pride in your neighborhood..

Anonymous said...

It's not parked, it's pulling out.

Queens Crapper said...

Abandoned tires on City property are the responsibility of DOS to remove. They have been reported but DOS just leaves them there. Add one more thing to the neglect list. Thanks, Biggie, for pointing it out.

Anonymous said...

are the stacks of concrete pipes on "city property" as well? how do you know that is "City property"?

either Jerry is double parked or making an illegal pass in a single lane street..

Queens Crapper said...

Nice try, Biggie. The white truck is pulling out of a driveway and Crown is parked in the street at the curb. These photos were all taken Thursday and you can clearly see that snow and ice have not been taken care of by the City.

Anonymous said...

How do we know the concrete pipes are on city property? Because they are in the street and on the sidewalk. Next dumb question?

Anonymous said...

Keep blaming the city for all your woes..

If that was my neighborhood I would put them in a truck and bring them down the street to the waste transfer station / recycling center..

have a little pride. no wonder the place is blighted.

Anonymous said...

pulling out of a driveway?? it is facing the same direction as Crown.. and the wheels are pointed straight ahead..

a suppose the "driveway" is parallel to the curb .

this picture shows nothing. If Crown sends it to his insurance co I bet he gets denied his claim based on the evidence in this picture.

With what, pray tell?

Don't know what vehicle you are looking at, but the wheels on the white truck in front of Crown are heading toward the street. You don't pull out of an industrial driveway at a 45 degree angle.

if your dog shits in your own front yard and you dont clean it up you cant complain if your yard smells like shit.

There is a troll who started out on Chris McShane's blog, then moved over to Stephen Stirling's blog, whose entire purpose in life is to badmouth the property owners at Willets Point. He comes here every so often, too, and tries to change the subject. He is a pathetic waste of life and an EDC hack.

Anonymous said...

cant deal with it if someone has an opinion different than you?

thats called bigotry

Anonymous said...

do you even know what a 45 degree angle is??

Anonymous said...

Bigotry is being biased against someone because of their race, creed, class, etc. You're just an asshole and they come in all colors.

Anonymous said...

yes, i know what a 45 degree angle is and you apparently have never driven a truck.

Anonymous said...

do you even know what a truck is? thats a white van PARALLEL to Crown's truck which is allegedly on the curb.. so that means the white van is where??

if crown is at the curb then the white van isnt on the street? but there is a telephone pole ahead of the white van which marks the real "Curb"

Anonymous said...

nice try.. that definition makes you an idiot.

A bigot is a person who, without thought, is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles or identities differing from his or her own,

Anonymous said...

what you define is a racist...

and there are plenty of them on this board.

Anonymous said...

The telephone poles at willets point are not next to the curb. most are in the middle of the sidewalk, or where its supposed to be. you obviously don't know the area and can't comment accurately. And you keep changing the subject, which is that the truck slid on the ice because the city didn't plow or salt.

Anonymous said...

I like how Biggie can't explain how he would move the giant concrete pipes to get rid of them. I also love how the moron who said the Italian American business owners at WP were in the mafia without any proof can call anyone else bigoted. It's biggie who is intolerant of anyone who says private property should not be taken for private gain.

Anonymous said...

what evidence is there that anyone slid into anyone?

it looks to me like Crown is either passing a van illegally or parked illegally and the 18 wheeler doesnt have enough room to pass by..

you can see the reflections of a car under the 18 wheeler showing how tight the area the truck was trying to get through was.

cars and trucks are driving under 15 mph in that area.. no one is "sliding" into anyone.

dope-- im not referring to the pipes but the 8 foot high pile of tires in front of the concrete pipes.

The concrete pipes are probably owned by the business they are stacked in front of.

Why a business would blight a neighborhood by stacking pipes in front of their office is beyond me..

it is part and parcel to the lack of respect people down there have for their surroundings..

Like how no one cares to clean up an eight foot high pile of tires right in front of the pipes.

Anonymous said...

members of the gambino and genovese crime family were indicted for using the chop shops in willets to steal scrap metal..

this is in the New york times.

"dope-- im not referring to the pipes but the 8 foot high pile of tires in front of the concrete pipes."

Nice try......

Two back-to-back comments:

"How do we know the concrete pipes are on city property? Because they are in the street and on the sidewalk. Next dumb question?

members of the gambino and genovese crime family were indicted for using the chop shops in willets to steal scrap metal..

and they were sent to jail. what proof do you have that anyone there now is in the gambino or genovese crime family? You don't.

Anonymous said...

im not a federal prosecutor but the district attorney's office is still investigating stolen car rings and illegal scrap metal dealings in Willets Point.

Anonymous said...

and so you assume crown and bono are involved? please tell us more.

Anonymous said...

that comment to put them in the truck and bring them to the recycling center was directed towards the 8 foot pile of scrap tires..

I would assume the half dozen concrete pipes are the property of a business in Willets Point. Probably T. Mina whose business is concrete pipes. There is no evidence that the concrete pipes are abandoned on "city property"

Anonymous said...

i never said crown and bono were "involved" in anything but trying to extort the city for their land...

Anonymous said...

So we are to believe that Mina leaves his property open to the street? Because the ends of those pipes are certainly on City property.

Anonymous said...

you admit there is a history of organized crime activity in the iron triangle.

I dont see that we are far apart on this debate.

Queens Crapper said...

You used the word mafia to describe them previously and if you want me to dig that comment up I have no problem doing that.

Bono and Crown plan to stay, not get bought out. So you need to research your facts better. They aren't positioning themselves for a windfall. They just want the services provided to them that the City promised decades ago and never delivered. If Tully's transfer station can stay, so can Crown's. This project will never be built. All of the finalists are up shit's creek financially and TDC can't even get Flushing Commons built and it's a fraction of the size of Willets. Keep dreaming, laughing boy!

No, they don't look like the same pipes at all.

i dont get it?

My, my, my...
Parkside and friends certainly aren't watching football today.

That opening salvo about Ackerman and Chen must have sent out waves to China & Taiwan and now Evan has to work overtime doing some emergency spin doctoring to divert attention from the eastern connection with the Willets Point job.

Too bad...I'm enjoying a beer
in front of my 50" flat screen.

Take a bathroom break once in awhile before the output of your mouth overtakes your ass.

Unless I've been mistaken and it's Mc Shane who's been counter posting all day.

What is your hourly rate for this kind of drivel?

H-m-m-m...
wasn't Donald Manes first found in his car near Willets Point with his wrist slashed on his first attempt at suicide?

Maybe that was really a warning
from...uh...I wonder who?

Maybe his "suicide" was
really something else.

His wife Marlene sure shut up quick and moved very far away!

It's forensically nearly impossible
to do what Manes did without first passing out from the pain before completing the act.

A cover up? Maybe.
We'll never know.

Anonymous said...

You are right to bring up Manes. The Manes affair, still not investigated thoroughly, casts a shadow across Queens politics even today. And, it was the event that opened up a keyhole into corruption at Koch's City Hall--such as the man in the basement office who was in charge of political hiring. There was no Crappy back then. Wish there had been. Things right now seem eerily similar. This city is soaked with corruption. Follow the money. Or lack of it. This goes beyond neglect.

Anonymous said...

biggie again your a complete moron if you look at the pioture my truck was going 1 way and the trailer was coming the other way and skidded into our truck because of all the ice on the side of the road. there is no parked truck or a truck coming out of a driveway . get a life please when someone shows you a problem you make it seem like it is their fault . and the tires no the city did'nt put them there but is'nt it their job to clean it up and enforce illegal dumping? we do pay for those services and i wish the city would catch and lock up whoever is doing it. makes sence if they do their job it would stop people from attempting it no?

wow, what a concerned hack we have here. if crown and bono and everyone else wants to stay , then why can't they? the big 3 are and the city has no $$$$ . so put it on the back burner for 10 years and then come back and talk. in the mean time while the city is collecting their tax $$$ from these poor people they should supply the services that are paid for on their tax bills. also why are they being charged sewer taxes and there are no sewers ?

Who (and where is) Eddie Chan?

It's funny how Claire Shulman
was never questioned by prosecutor Giuliani about her boss' corruption which would have been SOP!

I'll bet she rolled over on Donald
in return for her not being implicated as Manes, accomplice...
in exchange for which, when Rudy ran for mayor, she supported him!
