College Point doesn't want Willets Point salvage yard

While Sambucci Bros. and the city have agreed to a deal, College Point officials say they plan to fight the city’s attempts to relocate the salvage yard to their area. They say city officials assured them they would not bring Willets Point businesses to a neighborhood that already has its share of industrial outlets.

Willets Pt. relocation back on—for now

“Sambucci being moved into the neighborhood is not a popular move for the residents of College Point,” said Mr. Apelian, who voted in favor of the Willets Point plan.

Both City Councilman Tony Avella and Mr. Apelian say they were assured by city officials that businesses would not be relocated from Willets Point to College Point.

“They lied to me,” Mr. Avella said. “They’re not going to get away with it.”

A spokesman for Mayor Michael Bloomberg did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
