Bukharians to Katz: "Please don't limit our crapping rights!"

The following letter was written to Councilwoman Melinda Katz by an attorney on behalf of the Bukharians of the Cord Meyer area of Forest Hills in response to her remarks to the NY Times. It's a laugh riot, for sure, how they play the immigrant card.

The best line:

"It is our choice if we do not want to build in Tudor or Colonial style. For many of us it is much to reminisce to the styles of the old European buildings and neighborhoods where many of our ancestors were persecuted."

Let's get this straight...

You came to America and went out of your way to settle in an area where you claim the architecture disturbs you? And your people were persecuted by Russians and Muslims in Central Asia. The English are credited for creating the Tudor and Elizabethan styles of architecture that were widespread throughout Europe. So it's strange that the European Jews that settled in Forest Hills before you - and were direct victims of Nazi persecution - never had a problem with the architecture, but that you do.

Maybe it's just time for you to cut the crap, stop insulting the people who were here before you, admit that a gigantic house on a small lot is not good for the neighborhood and that a lawn is good for the environment.

These fire ants should be greatful and trying to get along.....They are just like Israelis when it comes to abuse and agression!!

The main reason no country in the world wants them around.

Our first experience with this type of "mind set" occurred aprox. 10 years ago.

First, on Burns St. a huge fortress of a house (surviance cameras and high walls). No trees or grass.

Second. three German Sheppard Guard dogs. These people then proceeded to let these dogs run loose (stand on the bridge and unleash them) instead of walking them. One dog was killed on the railroad tracks and for eighteen months the surviving two terrorized our side of Queens Blvd and all the way to Flushing Meadow Park (highly intellegent they crossed QB using the Subway entrances). They attacked our pets, trapped people in stores, and finally bit a person.

During this 18 month horror, we rallyed, picketed their house, picketed the 112 Pct, contacted Council and Assembly Women. Nothing until after 18 months.

That reminded US of Nazi Germany.

P.S. The owners of those dogs still own the house and Bukharian Synogog.

These Russians (Bukharian, Georgians, Ajzerbagian, etc) are true aliens to the prevailing American culture, living here legally only because they are Jews. They are backward, ignorant and believe that somehow they are better that Americans because some of them have made money (mostly illegally).
These people have been under FBI, DEA surveillance for many years - one of those posts have been 65th avenue and 108 St. This place, among others, gathers men that are in their 40's to 60's. lounging around, the entire day and driving cars that are worth close to 100,000 dollars. They live in a sub real world, that pokes continuously fun of regular working Americans. They are the real menace to this country - but they are well protected and the police would rather go after the Mexicans and others that are doing the jobs the rest of us don't want to touch. Why are these Russians not following the usual route that other immigrants take and do the manual work that is relegated to the Central Americans? How come you can find Polish immigrants working in construction and painting, and you will never find one of these non-Slavic Russians?

Anonymous said...

To the last anonymous- Go back to your cave of ignorance!

The Bukharians who gather around 65th Ave and 108th Street are ambulette drivers, who transport the elderly around town. Often, they are more efficient than the access-a-ride.

Unlike many Americans, the Bukharians care greatly about their elders, and their large homes provide enough space to include the grandparents. It's certainly better than sending them to some isolated "retirement village."

Glad to see Sergey defends building Queens crap as long as there are old people under the same roof. Funny, how other cultures revere the elderly and don't feel the need to build McMansions to take care of them.

This is such BS! They will be the first to complain if their basements flood or they can't cross the street because of huge puddles that their monster homes void of grass and trees contributed to create. Why would recent immigrants be allowed to destroy neighborhoods and circumvent the law just because they just want too? If they don't like the architecture move to some desert in Texas, New Mexico or Nevada and start your own barren community.

Anonymous said...

Gee, I've never met a Bukharian but based on what I've read (NY Times, QC) I already can't stand these people.

As much as I dislike paved lawns and SUVs, I respect their commitment to family. I visit my grandparents every week.

Taking care of the elderly in someone's home is very admiral. It's also great you visit with your grandparents.

However, what these recent Bukharian immigrants have been doing to Forest Hills is not admiral. In fact, it's downright selfish, low-class and ignorant.

past - wanted to assimilate(even changed their names)

present - want nothing to do with assimilating

mazeartist,

There are many other cultures that respect and care for their elders, also living several generations together. It certainly is admirable and uncommon nowadays.

There is always the good and the bad. The more affluent, obnoxious individuals are only a small fraction. Usually, these people conduct themselves at the expense of their less-privileged peers, and hide behind racial identity when it is convenient to do so.

That is the problem with a closed community. Lack of understanding usually creates stigmas, and leave a negative impression to outsiders. While it is wrong to generalize, it is just as bad to disregard others and expect them to be sympathetic.

Anonymous said...

What a bunch of racists you are. If none of these building violate any statutes or codes, why complain? And "Lawns are good for the environment"? WHAT a bunch of bull. green lawns in front of houses are terrible for the environment, and these home owners should be commended for their use of this space, since green lanws waste water (for keeping that green grass alive), as well as electricity/gas (which pollute!!) for mowing the damn grass!!!

Study Says Foreigners In U.S. Adapt Quickly

By N.C. Aizenman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, May 13, 2008; A02

Immigrants of the past quarter-century have been assimilating in the United States at a notably faster rate than did previous generations, according to a study released today.

Modern-day immigrants arrive with substantially lower levels of English ability and earning power than those who entered during the last great immigration wave at the turn of the 20th century. The gap between today's foreign-born and native populations remains far wider than it was in the early 1900s and is particularly large in the case of Mexican immigrants, the report said.

The study, sponsored by the Manhattan Institute, a New York think tank, used census and other data to devise an assimilation index to measure the degree of similarity between the United States' foreign-born and native-born populations. These included civic factors, such as rates of U.S. citizenship and service in the military; economic factors, such as earnings and rates of homeownership; and cultural factors, such as English ability and degree of intermarriage with U.S. citizens. The higher the number on a 100-point index, the more an immigrant resembled a U.S. citizen.

In general, the longer an immigrant lives in the United States, the more characteristics of native citizens he or she tends to take on, said Jacob L. Vigdor, a professor at Duke University and author of the study. During periods of intense immigration, such as from 1870 to 1920, or during the immigration wave that began in the 1970s, new arrivals tend to drag down the average assimilation index of the foreign-born population as a whole.

The report found, however, that the speed with which new arrivals take on native-born traits has increased since the 1990s. As a result, even though the foreign population doubled during that period, the newcomers did not drive down the overall assimilation index of the foreign-born population. Instead, it held relatively steady from 1990 to 2006.

"This is something unprecedented in U.S. history," Vigdor said. "It shows that the nation's capacity to assimilate new immigrants is strong."

A possible explanation, Vigdor said, was that the economic expansion of the 1990s created more job opportunities at all levels, speeding the economic integration of immigrants. It could also be that because today's immigrants begin at such a low starting point, "it's easier to make progress to the next level up" of integration than it would be if the immigrant had to improve on an already high level of integration.

Vigdor also said his findings included cause for concern: most notably, the fact that the 2006 assimilation index of 28 is less than the previous low point of 42 in 1920. The difference indicates the substantial change in the composition of today's immigrants compared with earlier immigration waves.

Although new arrivals at the turn of the 20th century were most likely to be eastern and southern Europeans, he said, "one of the top five origin countries was England, and close to 100 percent of them spoke English." By contrast, the majority of immigrants today are Mexicans and other Latin Americans, with the next largest share coming from a range of developing nations with languages other than English.

The overall assimilation index also masks big differences between immigrants from certain countries. Mexicans, for example have an index of 13, while Vietnamese were at 41. And although immigrants who arrived as children tend to be nearly identical to their U.S.-born counterparts, apart from their lower rates of citizenship, those who come from Mexico are less assimilated and have higher incidences of teenage pregnancy and incarceration.

A major reason for these disparities in assimilation levels may be the high percentage of Mexican immigrants who are in the country illegally, Vigdor said. When only cultural factors are considered, Mexicans score almost as high as Vietnamese and higher than immigrants from countries such as India and China, which tend to have a high rate of immigration to the United States.

"If you're in the country illegally, a lot of the avenues of assimilation are cut off to you," he said. "There are lot of jobs you can't get, and you can't become a citizen."

I really don't care what that "thinktank" says. I've met many immigrants from all over the world through my job as a teacher. Most of them have no interest in learning the language, culture or values we have in this country. As a matter of fact, we have to understand THEIR culture and adapt to THEM.
And it's this that I find absolutely absurd.

I live in Forest Hills. I am a buharian jew. I love those houses and yes, I feel your pain. You lived here your entire life and got a nice job as an MTA Worker, you lived in what you thought was a beautiful house, but then Bukharians came 10-15 years ago. No money, broke. Came here worked hard and bought a house that you will never be able not only to afford, but to dream about. They drive Benz, BMWs and even Bentleys. I know it hurts so lets admit what it really is about, your inferiority complex, that someone who you felt beneath you is in fact smarter, richer and happier than you are and please stop kidding yourself about those lawns- yea they are source of your anger. And please stop referring to class. You don't have one. You constantly criticize our houses. Please, why don't you post the picture of your little "classy house" I am sure a lot of people would love to see that. As far as Mrs Katz educating me. I would love for her to just do that, because I graduated from NYU, and finished Columbia Dental School and my wife, who obviously shares our common lack of class and education graduated from Binghamtom University and Boston University Medical School. I understand that this post will not change anything that you feel, it may exacerbate your feelings of insecurity. Best regards

Anonymous said...

Just to add to my previous post. You claim that Bukharians made money illegally, I strongly suggest that you take your suspicions and proofs and take it to police or any other enforcement agency.

As far as someone else's complaints that Bukharians should first start with working as a construction workers or a cleaning people, with all due respect I will say, to each its own. We are better suited for other things and if you feel that there is a void in those professions. I suggest you fill it and I will commend you for it. Best regards from your neighbors.
