Rockaway's tiny Tudor church

The parish of St. Gertrude the Great in Edgemere, Queens, is reeling from a double dose of disheartening news.

The parish's only priest, the Rev. Brendan Downing, died of cancer July 9 - and the Diocese of Brooklyn said it does not plan to replace him.

Instead, said diocesan officials, St. Gertrude will be administered by the Rev. Jim Cunningham, pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea - a parish nearly 2 miles away - until the two parishes are eventually merged.

Cloudy days for tiny Queens parish

What a lovely and unusual building design.

Hey, why don't they contact the Sacred Sites program of the Muncipal Art Society.

Let us know what happens.

(BTW, that goes for anyone out there whose church is being threatened. They are going the way of movie theaters so we should see a pick up of this in the future)

Don't get me started about that group. I would like to see some numbers broken down by borough on projects they handle.

Crappy, another idea for a thread!

Now that's truly an architectural gem worthy of landmark designation.
Let's ask our Landmarks West "friends" to come way out here and support us !

Wadda ya think ?
I'll offer to pay for their subway fare .

Forget it....travel outside of their turf ?
They believe the world is flat out here and they're scared they might fall off its edge !

Hey, why not? The Manhattan groups have been feasting on our share of preservation funds for decades, so what is a little metrocard?
