Looks like a massive rally of about 15 people. There was at least double that at the St. Savior's rally.

That's 3 times more people than there are Gallagher supporters!

Hey what do you expect for a last minute rally? 100 people?

They made their point and got on the news. I'd say it was a successful rally.

For the record, there were 40-50 people protesting. These pictures do not show the whole crowd. The TV news cameras did a better job of documenting how big it was.

With the vigilant "window curtain conformity & architectural department policing committee" of the J.H. "beauty" group and the like.....its usually action for Jackson H.

These politically connected scream loudly......
and these politically connected usually get whatever they want.

H-m-m-m.....just like any other spoiled "only child" of doting parents .

Every other deserving Queens neighborhood screams just as loudly....but winds up with a kick in the ass.

Why is that ?

I was there and 15 is about right. There were 40-50 people waiting to see the Mayor. Most said "Who are those losers in the holding pig pen over there?" The local politicians pander to everyone and then listen most to the people paying the heavy taxes in the area. These are the commercial retail stores.

Well it sure ain't Astoria. The leadership is at their summer homes and the local population of elderly Greeks and Italians, if they see a problem, mutter dark statements and keep to themselves in true peasant fashion. Don't upset the apple cart - quietly cash out the first chance you get.

A parade in Astoria? The new immigrants are invisible (except when a couple of sisters window shop the 99 cent stores on Steinway Street, then you have a clump of nine people - does sort of look like a slow moving parade - which is ok as most of them are kids so you can get by)

And the yuppies, that is supposed to be gentifying the community by bringing in new blood, all 15 of them? Posting madly on the blog astorians.com.

The local politicians pander to everyone but listen to the heavy campaign donors in the area. These are the developers.

First, this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the tax code and the city's financial infastructure. Residents pay SIGNIFICANTLY more money to the city's treasury then retail stores. Residents pay (1) income tax (2) property tax and (3) sales tax. Not to mention misc. fees like parking meters, etc. Residents' contributions are far larger than retail stores in total monies received by any measurement.

Second, the concept that someone's message is more important because of how much money they have or contribute is aborrent and misguided.

The dynamics of politics and money, like an apple in a field of gravity, is pretty well understood. If you want to repeal the laws of physics its your credibililty not mine.

Or, considering only a politician would say that, perhaps you think the rest of us fell off a Chistmas Tree.
