State of City speech: DeBlasio pushing forward with Sunnyside Railyard housing plans

From DNA Info:

The city is planning to develop thousands of units of affordable housing at Sunnyside Yards, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday.

In his State of the City address, the mayor said the city wants to build 11,250 affordable apartments at the 200-acre rail yard, comparing the proposal to the original mission of housing developments like Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village.

"That's enough housing for over 30,000 hardworking New Yorkers," de Blasio said during his speech. "It will be a game changer."

How would this be funded? The construction costs would be prohibitive! How much would a unit cost 10 years from now if construction were to begin today ? There is and never will be affordable housing in NYC. The mayor needs to take his medicine.

What planet is your mayor living on?

"hardworking New Yorkers"?

How many people work "hard" these days?

To Anonymous #1: "...every major rezoning development, we will require developers to include affordable housing. Not as an option. As a precondition,” he said.

Djevelopers will pay for the right to build market rate by building affordable.

Guess what ,skippy. We are full up. Not enough room and the infrastructure can't handle it.!

Leave it to private developers, do not give tax breaks.

Having the city involved only will lead to ghetto housing.

What planet is your mayor living on?

the lonely planet.with the queens boro president and the lapdog council men and women.

"gamechanger",these electeds sound more like creative department hacks everyday.

isn't sunnyside crowded enough?and doesn't that town have a decent ratio of houses and apartment buildings, with barely a mcmansion around?

"How much would a unit cost 10 years from now if construction were to begin today"

Why should he care? He'll be term-limited out in 8.

So in order to fix his tale of two cities problem he wants to lump 20,000 people in affordable housing all in one location. But won't these people feel "stigmatized " Mr Mayor as you once referred to your friends living in the shadows? You can't have that Mr Mayor. No, that's not right.

Next up, land reclamation and a new waterfront extending out a mile. All that land under water is wasted and not available for affordable housing.

Queens can't handle the overbuilding as it is. Look what one umbrella shorting out the 3rd rail just did for the #7 line....one of the major transportation links.

Yeah, and Mayor Gloomberg was pushing forward for the Willets Point development. Did that happen yet? By the time we see real affordable housing built in the Sunnyside yards, we will land a man on Mars. Campaign promises are getting bolder and bolder. But, the bolder they get the harder the candidate falls when he cannot deliver. Queens' dummies will believe in the tooth fairy followed by the promise of affordable housing. Go back to sleep and dream on.

Yeah, we need more discussion on the umbrella on the tracks episode. No terror plot; no high-tech disaster; an umbrella can bring a huge portion of this city to a stop. Where's the discussion?

It will take at least 15 years for these affordable housing units to be built. Seriously, who expects to stay around in NYC for 15 more years?

He's cracking up from stress or 2: Needs to be tested for some sort of drug abuse!
