City moving forward with Select Bus Service for Kew Gardens

From the Queens Courier:

With the backing of Mayor Bill de Blasio, the city is moving ahead with plans to develop an express bus service between Flushing and Jamaica.

Despite calls from community members and politicians in neighborhoods like Kew Gardens Hills, the transformation of the Q44 and Q25 into a Select Bus Service (SBS) line is set to begin as early as this fall, according to a Department of Transportation spokesman, but no official schedule has been announced. The transformed Q44 would continue along its path on Main Street. Residents in Kew Gardens Hills are worried that an express bus through their neighborhood would increase traffic or reduce parking along the route.

The city claims that an express bus line would help thousands of commuters going between the two neighborhoods every hour and allow people in areas without trains to quickly travel to Flushing for the 7 train. And in his State of the City Address, the mayor also pushed for express buses.

Crappy, fix the title - article clearly specifies "Kew Gardens Hills"

Kew Gardens Hills is suffering greatly from the decreased and now absolutely LOUSY Q64 service toward the Continental Avenue/71st Avenue subway station during evening rush hour. I have been late for a Monday/Tuesday evening class in the city just about every week because, contrary to the schedule sign posted that there should be a Q64 every 7 minutes or so during rush hour, you are lucky if one appears every 20 MINUTES--and then pray it doesn't say OUT OF SERVICE or NEXT BUS PLEASE. It is absolutely ridiculous. The dismal amount of transportation supplied would hardly qualify for the term "service".

So why do they need this "select bus service" toward Jamaica? A whole lotta people in KGH are going to and from the subway (we are 2 miles from the subway). THAT could absolutely use a boost in service, as described above.

They have their heads screwed on backwards, as is typical for People in Charge of Things in NYC.

Transit improvements are a necessity. With the population of NYC growing it will be essential to make more improvements in the outer boroughs not only in Manhattan.

Brian Williams had this idea first and never gets the credit!

I have the same issue with the Q64, wrote countless complaints to the MTA with no resolve....

Echoing Anon #2. What KGH needs is more buses that service the community, not a way for people passing through the community to get through faster at the expense of those living here.

The Q64 should not only run more often (it recently started running 24 hours, a big improvement) but it's run should be extended to 188th St to connect with the busses there.

While I'm making wishes, bring back the Q74!
