Lesson learned
Turns out that despite the advice received in the comments section of my post about Dunkin Donuts using a street tree and pit for advertising, I didn't have to "take care of the problem myself." There's the easy way to do things and the right way to do things. The Parks Department handled the situation, as they were supposed to. Thank you.

I think just because something resolves itself almost never means anything is 'resolved'.
As long as the underlying factors remain, the situation can easily revert.
And it will.
It didn't resolve itself. The Parks Dept intervened. And if it should happen again, Parks will deal with it again.
QC - do you know if DD got fined by Parks?
I don't.
Hi Crappy,
Great! I'm very glad to see the signs are both gone.
Not to be a pain, but are you certain that the parks department was the one who removed the signs? Did the parks department contact the offending Dunkin Donuts and threaten them with hefty fines? How do you know? Were you there?
I realize I sound like a completely disillusioned bastard (and yeah, I am) but I'm just reminded of my past experience complaining about a sign nailed to a NYC street tree that I reported many many many many (etc.) times starting in September of 2011.
Despite my numerous complaints (more than ten - really), the parks department NEVER came out to take it down. I finally had to do it myself in March of 2012.
Hey, I didn't lose faith in the system overnight...
Anyway, still glad to see that the signs are gone and thank you to whoever it was that removed them.
ENFORCEMENT. That is the answer for most of the shit that goes on in Queens, but that is usually what does not happen. Even when DOS cleans something up and the culprits are not fined, it will happen over and over again. This is with this situation, the illegally parked cars that are for sale by auto places, illegal driveways, uncovered garbage cans, etc., etc.
It all comes down to enforcement and as most of you know this is not being done.
Otherwise just cleaning up after someone and no type of punishment or consequence, then that is called ENABLING. And that we have a lot going on in Queens by our city.
Yes, I know that it was addressed by Parks supervisors because they read this blog daily and dispatch employee to address issues brought up, as per the employees. Whether they were fined or just warned, I can't tell you.
Sanitation
Ay have remzved the signs. I see inspectors tame flyers posted on light poles and then they issue a Simmons to whomever did the posting. If the flyer has a phone number or address they will hand deliver or mail a summoned. $100 for each flyer.
Sanitation wouldn't have removed just these signs, and street trees are under Parks' jurisdiction.
It still looks like shit.
In other cities - or even parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn - merchants plant flowers around the trees in front of their shops and maintain them - not here!
The MO is don't give anything back - just shit on everything here and send the money out of the country. No effin standards - or rather unbelievably low standards!
What can the average person do to improve the quality of life in Queens when the merchants and most of the people don't give a shit?
To Comment #7; several yrs ago, before 311 online, I called in illegal postering. They wanted to know what THE sign says and where THE pole is. Yes, they removed about 2 blocks of the 1 sign I told them about, never gave any summons, so whats the point. I just assume remove them myself, as I have been for about 10 yrs now. When I mentioned I've just finished removing a bunch, a couple of weeks ago to Paul Graziano, he mentioned it to Senator Tony Avella at an event with me and Avella told me to send him pictures. So I emailed about 25 that I hadn't gotten to yet to a staff member @ Avella's office and he "forwarded it to the office" since this staff member is teporarily on leave of absence to volunteer for Avella's campaign. But, my question is will sanitation ticket any of posterers or just, at best, remove the posters. If no summonses are given why bother them! They will continue postering. The only way to stop it, or at least reduce it, is by giving summonses to the ones that can be traced and tracked down, by phone and/or address. Maybe a bunch of us could/should get together and do like the community service prison mates, comnvicts do sometimes clean up road sides, and walk aroiund at agreed days and times and remove them ALL. MAYBE, if we do it enough it just may stop, or at least become less frequent and widespread. ~.

Vote the bastards out of office and during campaigns where there is a debate ask them to answer questoins about real problems (and don't give the plants an opportunity to ask them tweeder shit like hallal foods being served in schools) and you take a big step forward.
As the first poster mentions, just because something is taken care of we all go dashing off into anther problem thinking that the issue is resolved.
Only to find it back again. and again and ....
We need to take things a step further - if there is a problem we need to find the cause
- and the solution
- and stick to it like a bulldog.
End of story.
