Paul Vallone plans to use Independence line as a bartering tool

Remember the revelation that Paul Vallone's name is on a list of potential judges even though he alleges that he's been focused since 2009 on running for City Council? Well, as expected, the judgeship is plan B. As per Crains:

If Mr. Vallone wins a hotly contested Democratic primary in September, the Independence Party ballot line would be a major leg up in a battle against Mr. Saffran, as Republicans often rely on votes from the Independence line in Democrat-heavy New York City. But if Mr. Vallone does not win the Democratic primary, his presence on the Independence line in November could split Democratic votes between his supporters and those of the Democratic nominee. Mr. Vallone's main opponent in the race appears to be former Empire State Development spokesman Austin Shafran, who has lined up the bulk of the labor support in the race, as well as the Working Families Party endorsement.

As an attorney who has been a member of the New York bar association since 1992, if Mr. Vallone lost the Democratic primary, he could be nominated for a judgeship and cede the ballot line in the council race to the Democratic nominee. Asked if Mr. Vallone would definitely run on the Independence line in November, a campaign spokesman answered obliquely.

"When Paul Vallone wins the Democratic Primary in September, he will occupy both the Democratic and Independence Party lines in November," the spokesman said.

The Independence Line almost always goes to the Republican in the race. Last time Dennis Saffran ran, he got their endorsement, so it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't give it to him this time. Therefore, Joe Crowley must have made a deal with the Party. As he made a deal with the Vallones. Let's not forget that the GOP was once considering giving Paul Vallone their line and he was once considering accepting it.

Best quote ever: “Paul is really like a kindred spirit,” said Halloran.

if i had that position he is in i would do the same. who in their right mind wouldnt have backup plans?

Let's not forget that Paul Vallone also interviewed for the Conservative Party endorsement and ballot line in 2009.

I find it simply amazing that the Democratic Party bosses would give their endorsement to a candidate who sought the Conservative Party line and considered the Republican ballot line.

Then again, you're talking about the Vallones: they are just as opportunistic as the County machine is, so they make a perfect couple.

We'll see how the voters in the 19th feel about it on Primary Day.

Adam said...

This is not true. He is an honest man who wants to help out the neighborhood, whats wrong with that?

"who in their right mind wouldnt have backup plans?"

I guess being a lobbyist and a lawyer isn't enough of a backup plan?

Yes,
a quiet judgeship is a far better deal than being in the spotlight at the council. There it's easier to hide any shenanigans.

PV wants to be a judge just like his grandpa Charlie "the judge" Vallone.

Did grand pappy Charles make his bones fixing parking tickets (etc.) back in the 1930s?

Shady judges were common during the Great Depression era.

One thing for sure is that the Vallones are political animals who won't be going away.

Like a bad penny they will pop up over and over again in one form or another.

Politics has been the family business back to the good old days..

And what was Charles Vallone's connection to the Variety Boys Club in Astoria?

H-m-m-m-m!

It looks like Adam is on pappa PV's "joint" again.
What is it with these lame brained cultist followers, anyway?

Mr. Lombardi, you say that your dear leader, Paul Vallone, is just "an honest man who wants to help out the neighborhood"?

BALDERDASH!
You drank the Kool Aid and believe the BS.

Were you promised a job (other than the one you already have on your knees) when PV sets up shop?

Look at how well the Vallones "helped" out Astoria with all of that ill planned over development!

I rest my case consiglieri and dwarf.

Paul Vallone is pro-life and all these pro-choicers are endorsing him.

The hypocrisy is pretty hilarious.

This district is the epicenter of the NYC pro-life movement. The local GOP is loaded with Buckley ex-staffers. Vallone will win unless someone pulls another Kim out of the bag.

This would be funny if it weren't so sad. Who does the Queens Democratic party think their fooling with vallone's heir apparent; con-artist candidate costa constantinides.

I hope Astoria voters aren't fooled yet again because most of the county candidates end up in prison. Constantinides won't be any different.

The people of Astoria will be much better served by either Ciafone or Pretzas. Constantinides is a hack and a back stabber. He rejected Christianity and he's a racist pig too.

I wonder if Aravella simotas still speaks with him since he said all those terrible things behind her back when she first ran for assembly. A seat that constantinides said he was more qualified for.

Frank Padavan lost in large part because people thought he was pro-choice and he turned out not to be. The amount of pro-life Dem primary voters is miniscule. Vallone is going down.

So the GOP is going to vote in the Dem primary? This I gotta see.

You guys can attack my appearance and character all you want but that does"t solve anything. I laugh at your comments. PV is a genuinely nice man and the voters will see that. Maybe I'll get QC to see that too one day...

I also have noticed nefarious deeds committed by this clown Constantinides.

Several years ago my 71 year old mother called me asking for help paying her electric and gas bills. Of course I obliged and paid them immediately without question.

However when the same issue arose a SECOND time I rose the red flag and thought the worse. Was my Mom's identity stolen? Was she being defrauded? Unfortunately my worst fear was realized when upon further review of her check book in the year in question ; she had wrote several checks she could ill-afford on a fixed-income. When I asked why was she sending these large amounts of monies to these " groups" that I have never heard of,I was told that a " Mr Constantinides visits the homeowners association" she is a member.

Turns out this low-life scumbag Costa Constantinides periodically goes and shakes down vulnerable senior citizens for money to send to the Queens county democratic committee and other political hack groups.

At the time I wrote 2 letters to The Queens district attorneys office requesting that Mr.Constatinides be prosecuted but to no avail. My mothers' first language is Greek and speaks very limited English so I wrote the letters to the DA's office on behalf of my mother. I believe Mr.Constantinides should be criminally prosecuted.

P.S. I'm sure my mother wasn't the only senior that was defrauded by Mr.Constantinides.

PV is not a genuinely nice man when he plays the race card, threatens non supporters and walks around with a bunch of thugs. Lying about home invasions, calling a civic group the damn Broadway Flushing Civic Assn, whining about his opponent being of poor character because he couldnt throw a pizza party for his kid when he is the coach of the team and could easily reschedule it. And Adam, the self-described muckraker and hater of County, supports the county pick and suddenly has nothing bad to say about them. Must have been promised a low level job.

Adam said...

I have not been promised anything. These are my beliefs and I will fight tooth and finger to prevent false accusations of PV. He is a goodhearted man and this is POLITICS we are in. Wake up people.

As I have said before, the other candidates don't have the BUSINESS EXPERIENCE that PV has. We need a true leader in this district. Someone who can save the community. No other candidate fits the bill like PV, and I'm sure you guys know it.

Anonymous said...

All of the candidates save for Shafran have business experience. It's unbecoming for the supporters of a lobbyist to be touting his "business experience". And we know what people who play up their business experience end up doing...selling the community out to the mafia and developers, just like Bloomberg did. No thanks.

Adam said...

First of all, who really cares if he MAY or may NOT have been a lobbyist. I used to sell ice cream. Does that mean I support all ice cream flavors? NO!

As PV already said many times, it is the law that he has to register, but he is not or never was actually lobbying anything. He simply practiced general law in the firm. No lobbying of any kind. He has already said that so lets stop brining that up.

Second of all, the mafia?! They are basically nonexistent and lost all their power, so that argument is null and void.

Lastly, PV is ANTI developer. Go to his meeting and learn something. He wants to prevent large McMansions and overdevelopment. That is why he is supporting SMALL businesses and family safety and activity in the community.

Get it straight people.

Queens Crapper said...

"First of all, who really cares if he MAY or may NOT have been a lobbyist. I used to sell ice cream. Does that mean I support all ice cream flavors? NO!"

How does one support ice cream flavors? The previous piece that I highlighted shows who gave him money, that they were clients of his lobbying firm, and that he will do their bidding once elected.

"As PV already said many times, it is the law that he has to register, but he is not or never was actually lobbying anything. He simply practiced general law in the firm. No lobbying of any kind. He has already said that so lets stop brining [sic] that up."

Sorry, it deserves to be brought up repeatedly. He lied.

"Second of all, the mafia?! They are basically nonexistent and lost all their power, so that argument is null and void."

It's not null and void when you have Vallone voting in favor of zoning changes on their behalf against the wishes of the community. Hello... White House?

"Lastly, PV is ANTI developer. Go to his meeting and learn something. He wants to prevent large McMansions and overdevelopment. That is why he is supporting SMALL businesses and family safety and activity in the community."

PV has never said anything publicly that he is against developers or McMansions. He has repeatedly voted in favor of harmful development projects in the district and his family's lobbying firm has represented some of the worst offenders in the district.

"Get it straight people."

I don't think it's us that need to get it straight. We're not the ones making up stats about Broadway-Flushing being rife with home invasions in order to capitalize on the fear factor. Paul Vallone is also getting ridiculous amounts of money from the pro-development PAC, Jobs for New York, and that's not to be anti-development.

All the evidence points to this guy having been bought by seedy special interests. But please tell me again what a great guy he is.

Jerry Rotondi said...

What is Vallone paying you to blog watch and post positive for him, Mr. Lombardi?

Furthermore, if being a lobbyist is not a big deal, why did Adam accuse Graziano of being one, when he never was? If being anti development is desirable, why did Adam write this, "Graziano is another one of these anti-development goo goos" on his blog? Why doesn't Vallone get the same label? Why can't Adam keep his lies straight? Off his meds again?

Methinks that Adam doth protest too much.

No, I think he meant tooth and finger. He lies through his teeth while giving the community the finger.

Jerry Rotondi said...

Adam, I am willing to grant you that Paul Vallone has business experience. There's no argument there.

Unfortunately it appears to be the wrong kind that we require from our city councilman.

The Vallone business experience consists largely of lobbying for real estate developers.

Therefore, I cannot be fully comfortable, that candidate Vallone will represent his constituents needs over developers' wants.

In the past--he has voted in favor of over development as a member of CB7. I encourage you voters to check his record on this point. Don't just take my word for it.

So there you go. Trust is based upon past performance. I, in fact, see very little performance that would benefit the 19th council district.

I'm voting for the other Paul--GRAZIANO.
His record on neighborhood preservation stands unblemished.

Go for the judgeship, Don Paulo.
La famiglia di Vallone has enough political mobsters in government. They could use a judge.

The funniest thing in this election is the fact that Austin Shafran is paying the WFP and they didnt even give him their line. They make fun of him constantly. He is so dumb that they have him running aaround so they can take his money and then they dont give him their line cause they think he will lose the primary. Talk about embarassing. Those folks are laughing to the bank.

Adam said...

Ok, so I made a mistake with the metaphor "tooth and nail", but the meaning was still there. We are all entitled to mistakes right?

What I said about Graziano in the past is irrelevant and, in fact, I think somebody made up that I called him a "goo goo". The rest of what I said but I don't recall adding goo goo. I have a M.A, what do you guys got? Exactly.

Another issue. The Vallones did not ruin Astoria. I think it is very beautiful and more and more young people are moving there everyday. Graffittii and crime is down and more restaurants and small businesses are on the rise.

We need a fresh change away from the corruption that we have already seen in District 19, and PV is the way to go. Stop focusing on the insignificant negatives about him and look to the positive.

Just because the real estate developers gave him a bunch of money is a moot point.

Queens Crapper said...

Forgot this?

Thanks for revealing that anti development candidate Vallone wants Bayside to look like Astoria. That will make for a great mailer.

The developers giving him boatloads of money is a very relevant point. More so than Graziano donating to Sunny Hahn, but you found that blogworthy twice.

Hey Adam, if PV is such a great guy, and you're such a smart cookie with your master's degree, why is he paying Vito Tautonico several thousand to be his treasurer and not you? Do you still have to earn a few more stripes brown-nosing before you get a paying gig on the campaign trail? I guess PV is a good businessman after all to convince you to give out quality PR for free!

What happened to that crusader that railed against lobbying and the machine? Is it true Evan Stavisky sued his ass and now all he can do is continue to harbor a grudge against Ulrich for firing him and pick on community types like Graziano?

First of all, my reviewing editor must have added that in there because I did not mean to publish "goo goo". As I have said before we are all entitled to mistakes.

Another thing, I have never said they want to make District 19 look like Astoria. All I said was that Astoria was not 'destroyed" as you say.

For the issue of why I was listed as Unemployed. It is because of the economy and the fact that I dedicate my heart and soul to my blog website. Are you doing exhaustive research on alternate days come up with stupid "Carlos Danger" monikers for other candidates and copying press releases? Hey everyone -

Let's stop beating up on Adam, ok?

Hopefully when Paul Graziano gets elected, he'll make more mental health dollars available for poor, unemployed, pathological lying residents of the 19th District.

Back to the task at hand: Paul Vallone clearly doesn't need your help - he has a political backup plan, a golden parachute, as it were.

This is the Vallone strategy: get elected or don't. It doesn't matter, as long as they have a backup plan outside of their lobbying firm.

As I stated above, I'm going with Paul G. instead of Paul V...he's the Italian with integrity. HIS backup plan is to just keep on keepin' on - and we need more like him instead of these generational political dirt-bags.

Adam,
are you a glutton for punishment--who enjoys coming back for more and more of the same obtuse ("political columnist's") discourse?

Your personal perception of Paul Vallone's character--as a neighborhood minded man--is far from his performance as a real estate lobbyist who thinks that over development is good.

Your "truth" VS the real truth:
There can only be room for one truth.
Astoria is a mess. That's the Vallone legacy.
That sums up the real truth.

Other than that, I'm sure that Paul Vallone is a good man and a loving father--BUT WE ARE CHOOSING A COUNCILMAN TO REPRESENT US.

Everyone is welcome in the house of the Lord.

One can still bend one's knees while twisting someone else's arm after mass is over.

Churches don't refuse taking donations from their mob family parishioners.

i.e.
Maybe, St. Luke's, Whitestone and St. Mel's, Flushing.
The latter even offers an Italian mass.

The Malba-Beechurst crew has taken over (???) St. Luke's after they couldn't muscle into St. Andrew Avellino.
