2 people hit by N train in Astoria
From the Daily News:
A man was killed and a woman was left fighting for her life after they were hit by a train in Queens Friday night, cops said.
The pair, who were not immediately identified, were struck by a northbound N Train in Astoria about 10:40 p.m., officials said.
The male victim - whom a witness said fell from the elevated tracks to the street after being hit by the train at the 36th Ave. station - was pronounced dead at the scene, sources said. The woman was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital Center Friday night.
It was not immediately clear how the two fell, but a witness said the woman toppled first as the train approached the platform.
Another version:
ASTORIA, QUEENS (1010WINS) -- A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after the two were hit by an N-subway train in Astoria, Queens late Friday night.
Police say the woman dropped her jacket onto the subway tracks at the 36th Avenue and 31st Street subway stop. When she jumped onto the tracks to retrieve her jacket, the man, said to be in his late ‘20s, jumped down to help her and they were hit by an oncoming train.
The man was pronounced dead by police upon arrival and the woman was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital. She is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Drunk and high as a kite...oh well
Supposedly the woman dropped her jacket onto the tracks, and went down to retrieve it. The man went to help her when the train was entering the station.

Take on Astorians.com.
One theory is that they were smashed (as is so much of Astoria's nightlife these days.)
Even more interesting is that mentioning something like that on that blog can get you banned!

Thank you. I made the Darwin comment. And I stand by it. There is nothing material in this world that's worth risking your life. NOTHING.
Drunk and high? - how about just plain STUPID!!
I feel very sorry for the guy - he risked his life and lost to save his girlfriend - who was an idiot - but, heh he liked her I guess.

Not that stupid - because I'm still here to make these comments. And certainly not as an adult.

so it was booze.
No, you mean you did stupid things that didn't kill you. Some things come down to luck too.
The man who pulled you out of the riptide. The doctor who cured you when you let an infection go on too long or ignored symptoms of problems. The good samaritan who grabbed your collar and yanked you just out of the way of a speeding car.
Just think about it. You've done stupid things like everyone else.

Yes, you are certainly not making comments as an adult!
