LIC post office to be named for Ferraro

From the Times Ledger:

A pioneering Queens politician will soon get a very public tribute after U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Astoria) announced last week that the U.S. Senate passed a bill to rename the Long Island City Post Office as the “Geraldine Ferraro Post Office Building” in honor of the former Queens prosecutor, congresswoman from Queens and first female vice presidential candidate.

The House of Representatives passed the bill in May. The post office, at 46-02 21st St., is not the Long Island City branch slated for possible closure by the U.S. Postal Service.

Aren't you supposed to be dead to have something named after you? What if Ferraro gets indicted in the future for something?

We'll see what happened after Bernard Kerik was indicted, George. Rudy stuck his name onto something, and the City took it off.

Do you know about Ferraro doing something illegal?

I know for a school or street you have to be dead. Nice to do so for her. HOWEVER, maybe she could finish the job that was not complete. GLENDALE AND RIDGEWOOD share the SAME ZIP CODE. This has caused many problems for many people. Not only mail, but directions (Glendale is not on the map in map quest, it only says ridgewood!)emergency response, folks trying to get a phone number. And a host of other things. So, before she is rewarded, perhaps she could get the ZIP CODE for GLENDALE. I do believe that Richmond Hill has 2!! No other community shares a zip code. Keep the same post office since money is tight, just give us a ZIP CODE!!!!

Look at her husband for heavens sake, to say nothing of her father.

The machine in Queens is a freaken joke. The only bigger joke is everyone's resignation to these bozos.

The LIC post office earlier this year changed its weekday closing hours from 7:00 to 5:00.

Last month, it cut its Saturday closing hours from 4:00 to 1:00.

And now it's been decided that the place will be improved by naming the 70-year-old building for a politician who served the district for six years, ending a quarter-century ago this New Year's?

Thanks, but no thanks.

Naming a Post Office after someone is such a stupid thing. They named the Woodside Station after Boss Manton 2 years ago. They closed off the street and all the political bigwigs showed up to ooh and aah. Now there's just a small pathetic placque in the lobby which nobody reads.

Go ahead name it after Ferraro. The Post Office is going into the toilet anyway just like Ferraro has.

What dirt does she have on the powers that be? I thought you had to be dead to get something named after you? What did she do for Queens? Nothing comes to mind. So she ran for vice president -- she didn't win. Why would you want a losers name on a Post Office? Just asking.

My question was if Geraldine Ferraro had done anything illegal, not her husband, not her father.

This is ridiculous. She was a Vice-Preidential CANDIDATE. Mondale and Ferraro lost, and then disappeared into obscurity. Why name ANYTHING after her?

Well, I just would like you to know that I had a drug addict for a son and a husband who stole an old lady's money.

Has she done anything illegal because her family has a history of ties with somewhat unsavory types?

Good question.

She is Exhibit A of the caliber of person the Queens Democratic machine spawns - shooting up to heady heights overnight, and in the strong glare of the public spotlight, her true fiber was found wanting, she all but killed Mondale image, and gave us another four years of Republicans.

Nice work Queens Democratic Machine, but after what you have done to the borough, are we surprised?

Like the typical Queens hack once outside the local swamp, she quickly withered. Notice how no one in Queens Politics goes far? Lack of sophistication and creativity if not downright grey matter seems to be a hallmark of each of these small town 'heroes'.

Remember how she was thrown off the campaign trail last year for her stupid comments? ----

She declined to apologize directly for the firestorm she created when she told a local California newspaper that "if Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position."

Ferraro, the 1984 Democratic vice presidential candidate, told Sawyer she was "absolutely not" sorry for what she'd said, suggesting she had tried to pay Obama a compliment.

“They are attacking me because I’m white” Geraldine Ferraro

“I don’t think Geraldine Ferraro comments have any place in our campaign or the Democratic Party. They are divisive…they are patently absurd.” President Obama

Good God, this woman is cut of the same cloth as Gary and Claire and Vicky and the rest of 'em.

The purpose of Queens Crap is to drain that swamp - a task that will not happen overnight, but a task where the water level is unmistakably heading in the right direction.

In the meantime I am embarrassed that this fine landmark of our borough is associated with this person.

I thought she lived in Forest Hills, so why is the LIC PO being renamed after her? Is the Forest Hills PO awaiting a renaming for someone else?

Was anything named after Donald Manes?

Anonymous said...

I wonder if he'll
ever get indicted.

I'd rather see them name a PO for John Gotti instead of the low class mafia wife of Zaccaro.

At least he was a dapper don!

Faccia brutta!

you can take your shopworn face and bring it to Hell".

Isn't Helen Marshall a cousin of "Zippy" the Chimpanzee with a rat's nest hairdo?

And old Sheldon Leffler looks like an silver back Gorilla.

Then there's granny Shulman appearing very much like a bovine boozer these days.

Any dumb animal can be elected with the help of the even dumber Queens electorate marching to the beat of the clubhouse's wishes! all disgust me!

Did I miss what Ms. Ferraro did during her stint as a representative? Can anyone name a single thing that happened thanks to her efforts.

John Zaccaro kept most of Queens from getting cable TV for over a decade and barely avoided getting nailed for his unsavory business practices.

BTW, the Zaccaros now live in a swell condo in Manhattan. Why are we in Queens paying undeserved tribute to a do nothing machine politician?
