Merchants concerned about Hunters Point project

From NY1:

While some Queens residents are excited about the prospect of a massive affordable-housing development in Hunters Point South, many business owners have their concerns.

In the video, Brian Adams, head of the Hunters Point Merchants Association, points to existing retail space at Queens West that has been sitting vacant for years, and states, "They still can't rent these spaces, how are they going to justify rental of 96,000 sq ft in another new project destined for Hunters Point?"

Time to re-start the factories. We can't trade useless paper money with foreigners forever. We have to produce real goods. The Chinese are already laughing at our treasury--and they are right!

They already OWN our treasury! He (or she) who laughs last, laughs best!

More inaccurate broadcasting. Some peope just love to talk just to hear themselves the footage in the piece is obviously stock since the retail space that the space that they show have been filled with a huge supermarket and a Duane Reade. Just this month a gym, a dogggy spa, a gift shop, a hair stylist, a pub, a bistro, and italian resturant and a furniture store opened are announced that they were planning to open. With all these people the retail space will be filled. Also waiting for crapper to post an article about the acre of gorgeous new parks that just opened up. Doubt that will show up here though. No good news get reported.

LIC is on the rise.

LIC is on the rise.

Yea, so is debt, unemployement, and gas in my tubing.

The amount of empty space in LIC is as outragous as the rents the landlords want - subsidized with our tax money they are in no rush to fill the spaces.

This being Queens you will get space filled with tweeder programs and the city paying fat rents to keep the developers solvent.

Crapper posted an item about all the new park space that opened in LIC and all the new businesses that opened or announced opening? I guess that snowball in hell just melted.

Is someone actually complaining that the city is planning for retail space in the development of buildings for thousands of apartments?

Once again this blabbermouth does not know what he's talking about. The retail space in LIC is filling up rapidly and many leases have been signed especially down by the waterfront. Unfortunately some of the smaller stores will be hurting as the new developments will bring in some larger chain stores.

Yes, what LIC needs is big box and chain stores. Especially in corner of town that has one way in and one way out...

How does everyone feel, would chain stores be welcome in LIC. I think it would be great. Comments?

I didn't know that Vernon was in such bad shape. I know businesses closed but I was under the impression that new ones were coming in.

Half the people posting here could not find LIC on a map not to speak of what is going on on Vernon Blvd. I find their posts comical knowing that they are so clueless.

Don't worry, vote for Bloomberg again. That way in a few years there will be a big 99 cent store and a massive 24 hr check cashing spot.
