Queens getting a heavy tow truck

From the Queens Chronicle:

Queens residents, civic leaders and NYPD precinct commanders who have grown frustrated with drivers who park their large trucks overnight on residential streets could be off the hook — and the trucks on one — by the end of this coming summer.

The NYPD confirmed on Monday that the city is purchasing a heavy duty tow truck that will be used exclusively within the borough of Queens.

The truck, being built by Mack, will have a towing capacity of 35 tons.

“We anticipate that it will be delivered at the end of August, when it will be checked and prepped for service,” the NYPD said in an email to the Chronicle.

I highly recommend a visit to the Mack Truck Museum in Allentown,Pa.

BUT don't they already use heavy two trucks for this exact purpose, so I don't really understand this article about getting a "new" truck. I mean in SE Queens they do this about once a month with illegally parked trucks.

BUT as usual, the question will be ENFORCEMENT, the questions that arises for ALL quality of life issues.

LOTS of box trucks with commercial license plates parked on the Calvary cemetery side of Queens Blvd & NEVER even a summons given.

"when it will be checked and prepped for service"

"Yes Captain, it is here, CHECK"!

With a scheduled delivery at the end of August, I would imaging after "prepping" and creating a "Queens Heavy Duty Tow Truck Division" requiring a Commander, Sergent, detective and multiple drivers and operators, who will need training and practice. The New York City Police Department can accomplish nothing in less than six months, attempt a pistol license application submission! It will be WELL into the following year until any large truck will be on the "hook"!

"Prepped" for service will consist of removing yellow flashing lights, replacing with red flashing lights, and painting the New York City Police logos, emblems, mottoes, and designations.

I can just imagine the annual budget for this new white elephant with the blue lines.
And in this city any budget is always exceeded!

Will this generate sufficient revenue to offset operating costs?

Doubtful...

I'm amazed that there isn't one already. It's not like the City to pass up a source of easy revenue.

Did you mean to imply that the Bronx or Manhattan could have one of these but in Queens we couldn't play with it?

What abject stupidity.

Parked next to Calvary.......You have to be parked in a residential area 9pm-5am to receive a summons. Only Democrats consider the dead as residents.

"Who's in charge here?"

Perhaps Ms.Katz-litter.

Wait. The NYPD is frustrated? You mean the agency that can give tickets, impound, boot, etc. can't do anything about these trucks? Sounds like nothing more than an excuse to spend more money. Take a drive by the GCP service road just before the Jewel Ave Exit near the high school. 12-15 18 wheelers parked there EVERY NIGHT and on weekends. Not so much as a single ticket issued. You can't even get off the exit without having to squeeze past a truck which results in near accidents with the cars already on the service road. Then there's the guy who leaves his car hauler parked there without the pull vehicle every day making it difficult to turn the corner. Again, no tickets. Then again, this is the same agency that can't get illegal scooters off the streets. May the need to order a special scooter inpound tow truck as well.

Buy the one built by HESS, it's cheaper.
