5-story building to replace Forest Hills small businesses

From Forest Hills Post:

A block of shops on 71st Road are going to be torn down and replaced with a 5-story mixed use building, according to filings with the Department of Buildings.

The stores, located between 107-21 to 107-25th Road, will be replaced with a building comprised of ground floor retail and four stories of office space.

Joel Mandel, whose firm the Forest Hills Property Group owns the building, said that the tenants—Austin Fancy Cuts, City Printers and Anthony Kids—will be moving out this year. The convenience store Kwick Stop has already closed.

The building is part of a lot that includes 71-23 and 71-25 Austin Street, located on the corner of Austin and 71st Road. Those structures will not be touched.

Those new store fronts are going to be empty for years. A lot of new towers built in Manhattan that have ground floor space reserved for commercial use have been vacant for almost a year.

Don't bother asking or looking for Borough Hostess Melinda Katz, she's too fixed on what the borough is going to look like in 20 years and the betraying corrupt mayor of your city, who doesn't give a damn shit about local business owners.

Someone needs to update the Pretenders classic "my city was gone".

Pouring 5 quarts in a gallon container.

In the eyes of a developer this is underutilized space. If the zoning allows it the area will be built to bigger bulk. That's life in NYC.

Bloomberg really was not stopping developers either. It is just by the time he left office, prices in Manhattan drove developers to Queens.

We seem to have little choice but to bear it or move to quieter places, no matter if my aunt lived near there.

No one will know what the sky looks like in a few years, hemmed in by high multistory buildings. Disgusting. And the disgusting diseased mucus currently holding the office of mayor is responsible. His outright greed, self-agrandizement, and strict unbending adherence to his communist agenda leave little to no room for regard for the citizens of the city. Indeed, it is the NON citizens which he holds more dearly. Piece of filth!

If they're already going to be kicking people out and tearing down, why not build it taller? 5 stories barely seems worth it, and all office space too, not even residential when there's already no place for everyone to live.
