Andy should have checked with the Feds first

From the Daily News:

The Cuomo administration yielded to the federal government Friday and announced plans to replace the controversial “I Love NY” road signs that threatened to cost taxpayers a $14 million penalty.

Administration officials said the sign campaign had run “its useful course” and will be replaced by new tourism initiative in time for the summer season.

“Existing materials will be reused but, as the signs will be redesigned for the new campaign, we will consult with (federal highway officials) during this process,” Acting Transportation Commissioner Paul Karas and Thruway Authority Director Matthew Driscoll said in a joint statement.

The statement came a day after the Federal Highway Administration notified the Cuomo administration that it was withholding $14 million in funding because of the more than 500 signs, which federal officials claimed were an unnecessary distraction to drivers and created safety hazards.

Federal officials gave the state until Sept. 30 to remove the signs or forfeit the money.

Karas and Driscoll said the signs would be replaced by the federal deadline.

DJT porks la faccia brutta!

I know I can't read those signs with the tiny distracting lettering comfortably and safely doing 55mph.

Remove the signs or lose the dough. Next case: Sanctuary Cities.

Fantastic news. The majority of those signs serve no purpose and they were quite unsightly.

I have a strong feeling that someone made out big time with this mess.

I agree those signs are a distraction. Too many roadside signs cause distracted drivers.

Mario's son is more concerned with marketing rather than governing. Has this profligate waste of tax dollars, which should have went straight to transit and housing infrastructure improvements, proves in addition to promoting and deluding himself as a leader of the McResistance and presidential candidate.

Despite this excoriation, he and his confederacy of dunces are going to do another marketing campaign for the signs.

Andy and his equally stupid aides are overgrown stubbornly stupid petulant children approving programs nobody wants.

@GTA

this may be a job for FOIA. For Andy has a chronic phobia for accountability and transparency.

Not surprised that the bleeding heart liberal Governor would do this "his way". Recall what he did to our economy and millions of lives when he was Secretary of HUD.

Dont they have anything better to do with their time and money?

Can't stand it when he speaks. Always sounds like he is whining.. and. condescending .

The signs don't look go at all. Who is the designer ?

Dam straight, Governor Gargoyle has so much bullshit, different fonts & graphics on those signs they read like a menu in China. The signs make no sense for the time you have at 55MPH to read and process them, yeah cause accidents too.

Watch the idiots stick vinyl contact paper with new bullshit as the fix. Perhaps we will get stop & yield "illegal immigrant crossing" figures like the Governor of California put up.

@ Anonymous said... "The roads are full of informational signs."

Yes but too road signs cause sensory overload and distract drivers.
Do you drive ? Maybe you are oblivious/not aware or not concerned about what is happening around you while you drive.

It's hard to imagine how several bureaus of state government were involved in this and not one person knew that they should check with the feds.

How about investigating the ongoing EZ-Pass, Toll by Mail ripoffs?
They are extorting money left and right!
$8.50 toll,$100 fine, never received a bill?

This is a real issue, needs to be investigated.

Tinfoil is aluminum foil ?
Is that the new science taught by deBlasio hacks & liberals up in New York Schools?

The 2 have totally molecules, atoms and arrangements of those molecules. Aluminum is a intermetallic compound tin is not.
Tin foil is foil made of tin and was superseded by cheaper and more durable aluminium foil after World War II when that bum Harry S. Truman scrapped most our airplane fleet.

Disclaimer: Despite this, aluminium foil is still referred to as "tin foil" in many regions and inner citys.

Get over it. Is a misnomer. You just stated it. So why are you grandstanding at a molecular level?

Now get involved with the toll/ezpass fraud mentioned above if you really want to be useful.

Cheers.
