Part of secret Maspeth shelter meeting caught on video

Well, well, well. We finally have a look inside the "secret" meeting that was held August 3rd at the Maspeth Library to "inform" elected officials about the conversion of the local Holiday Inn Express into a 110-room homeless shelter for adult couples without children.

In this video you will note:

  • The first person heard speaking is Vincent Arcuri, Chairman of Queens CB5. He mentions that the next CB5 meeting is not until September 14th and they need more time to inform the public and study the issue. The city knew this and planned this entire thing for when CB5 was in recess and most board members are on vacation. It's an old trick.

  • Marge Markey and Joe Addabbo stay silent (Addabbo actually left the room).

  • Lincoln Restler and cohort stating that they have to "plan capacity" (because there is no immediate need but they will be producing more homeless to enrich de Blasio's friends in the homeless warehousing industry). Arcuri points out that they are not "planning capacity" if they are moving people in the day it converts.

  • Note that Lincoln Restler planned a meeting at a library knowing full well that there was a children's program scheduled and that they would have to cut it short.

  • "This was intended to be a briefing for the elected officials" so he brought them a dozen donuts from Greenpoint. Why not hold it at the CB office one of the electeds' offices?

  • Liz Crowley saying "as the council member that represents both Glendale and Maspeth, I feel that you are pitting one part of my district against another and I think that's unfair" - indicating that she is fully aware that a swap is being made.

  • No one at the table questioning why 35 rooms would be an acceptable alternative to a 110-unit shelter. Instead they are going to idiotically knock themselves out looking for sites they can mention as alternatives so that the district will end up with an influx of 290 homeless people instead of 220.

  • Liz Crowley demanding that no 60-day clock start and instead of answering her, the city reps get up and walk out.

  • Someone yells out "So is the clock ticking?" and there's no answer.

Friends in Maspeth, with this type of representation, you are royally screwed.

Obfuscation in plain sight. Wanna bet skinny little Lincoln has some of his trust fund and his billionaire daddy's money invested in homeless warehousing and gerrymandering.

It costs 3000 a month to put up rooms for the homeless, which just happens to be the desired market rate for renting an apt. in trendy towns in Brooklyn and Queens. Towns which still have high poverty levels. These people are demented, sick and twisted.

QNS an apology is in order now! Plus an unbiased article about the truth.

It's this sort of video, pious attitudes from NYC Officials as well as complete and utter lack of action by YOUR elected officials that should make your blood boil.

More than that, it should spur action in each and every one of us. Join the Community Board. Vote these puppets out. Expose everything to everyone...send this to Liz Crowley, Marge "Yawn" Markey etc...and ask for comments. Post these...and ask again...

These self-important losers report to you and me..not to DiBlasio...

VOTE THEM OUT!!

Who the hell is this little twerp Restler? Who the hell does this punk think he is dictating terms to us.

What does this Addabbo character do besides hold barbecues, recycling events, and mobile office days? (Funded by taxpayers ). What does he do all day?

Hmmm...this is the kind of stuff that usually goes on with CB7 in Flushing, with Chuck Apelian presiding.

There may not have been 19th century ...cigar smoking boss Tweed type characters meeting in the back room of a Bowery bar...but this sure looks to me like political backstabbing going on in an Olde Tyme smoke filled back room in the olden days.

Drive these crooks out of Maspeth...OR....your community will be sunk in one clean shot through the bow!

Gurgle, gurgle. Man the lifeboats!

Don't ya just love modern technology...fereting out crooks with a small hidden video device.
Now...follow the money to see who is getting their share for selling out Maspeth!

Remember Blasio was Hillary's campaign manager in 2000, this is what the Democraps want to do for all of America, if Hillary wins America loses

Crowley played for the weak troll she is. No one answered her? Seriously? City reps just get up and walk away and what does she do? She doesn't follow them? Start recording them herself? She doesn't go to the press with it immediately? Because that is what a smart leader would have done. She should have been recording the whole thing herself.

She KNOWS her hand is in the cookie jar - so she stayed silent and hoped the community won't notice. Now she's trying to save face. It's too late lizzy. You've been caught. You failed to act. You didn't represent your constituents. In street slang them city reps flat out dissed your fake corny ass, and everyone knows you're too bitch-made to do anything about it.

The issue here is also the continuing running sore over the library and its management. Why is a meeting like this taking place there?

Wolcott needs to answer some serious questions and if he has no answers he should step down too.

We always said the library board, filled with people with close ties to developers and little else should step down and be replaced by professionals. Even better, the Queens Library should be taken over by Manhattan. NYC does not need duplicate service.

As always, follow the money. State pols say there isn't a lot they can do because this is a City matter but State money helps to fund these homeless warehouses. Hey Joe, how about calling for an investigation in how these 'friends and family ' contracts are given out. You say you want to help, prove it.

The little twerp Restler is really what aggravates me most about this video. He is a direct rep of deBlaz and shows just how royally screwed we are. This little know it all punk trying to spread homeless situation further until he infiltrates whatever decent neighborhoods we have left. I bet he played a big role in the streetcar nonsense idea and let's not forget the Queens Blvd bike lane insanity!! People if this isn't a call out to all of you then I don't know what is, we need to get Blaz out ASAP!! He and his hippie cohorts are out to trash the city.

CITIZEN JOURNALISM AT IT'S BEST !! VOTE THEM ALL OUT !!

The writer of the QNS "article" Robert Pozarlacky should be made to watch this video and write another editorial how QNS is both dishonest and up the asses of the Queens Machine. How does it feel to be a complete sell out Mr. Pozarlacky? You are a disgrace to journalism.

Ever wonder why in the past several years we have seen numerous hotel/motels erected in dubious economic neighborhoods?

I think the department of buildings, the community boards and the previous and current mayoral administrations were and are in cahoots with each other to get the homeless out of Manhattan and the chichi neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

C'mon, who'd build a Holiday Inn and a Comfort Inn a couple blocks away from each other in an industrial section of Maspeth without knowing that government funds would be there for the taking in a couple of years?

"Even better, the Queens Library should be taken over by Manhattan. NYC does not need duplicate service."

So that you know Brooklyn too has it's own separate library system.

Addobbo didn't say a word in the video. While Glendale was fighting the Cooper Ave Shelter he tried to shame residents by suggesting the Veterans Shelter, so they would stop fighting it. Watch his actions, not his words.

More homeless shelters coming Maspeth and don't wait for anyone from other neighborhoods to come to you aid. You voted for these jokers time after time. The chickens are coming home to roost.

Maspeth doesn't vote. Who are you kidding? They get what they don't take the time to ask for.

this video should go viral .... this is taxation without representation...

It makes perfect sense. DiBlasio and his real estate cronies get the homeless out of the chic and gentrifying neighborhoods, and shove them into places where the people don't have the money or the political power to object strongly. And then they make a double profit by getting absurd amounts of money from the city and never spending it on safety and security.

He has trust fund kiddies doing the dirty work. They live in suburbs and gated communities, they never have to worry about the working class or how they'll get by.

where is the video? I only saw a still photo. Thanks to whoever got the footage. This is real journalism, not the puff pieces in local rags or Daily News filler.

Daily News reported on a racoon stuck behind a metal gate. Too bad they are not reporting on this Queens Crap.

Addabbo is the King of Queens Crap. I called his office for help with an issue that I couldn't take care. His staff were rude, unprofessional and very condescending. Their jobs is to help constituents but they refuse to. They are good at making less work for themselves. They lost a vote for their employer and any respect for him that I might have had.

Take the test. Call your elected official and ask them to help you with something. If the staffers are rude and unprofessional, so this their boss.

Like Ridgewood, and East New York (wait for it).

But I think Mayor Big Slow De Faustio has overplayed his greasy hand here. And so have his agents of the city and that fucking parasite Lincoln. I seriously think they thought the people in Maspeth would not react. Or even in other towns like Inwood and now in Crown Heights (there is a vile scandal involving an armory being fashioned for affordable luxury), where there are similar uprisings inspired by similar immoral tactics. This is a level of arrogance that can only be matched by the atmosphere breaking tower pestilence on 57th street.

And Liz is a disgrace. the only reason she was concerned about the towns she mentioned is because she probably saw the camera and didn't want to look worse than those 3 gargoyles with their homeless sales pitch.

ITS ABOUT TIME THE COMMUNITIES IN QUEENS START TO WORK TOGETHER. THEY SHOULD FORM SOMETHING WITH ANYONE BUT POLITICIANS AND THEIR STAFFERS, COMMUNITY BOARDS MEMBERS, AND PARTY HACKS NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN.

LITTLE BROTHER IS WATCHING.

If they're filming us all the time, it's only right that we record them back. Who ever released this video did a huge public service.

There's a small hotel being done in Rego Park (nearer the Elmhurst side). I thought it was a very odd place for a hotel, but now I'm wondering if there are other plans for it. It's above a drive in Starbucks and I believe also a fitness place. I hope that it actually will be what they say, but now I'm beyond dubious.

COMET and Glendale/MV have individual coalitions fighting these shelters off. Instead of fighting separate fights and being pit one against the other as Crowley suggests, why doesn't everyone join together to fight City Hall?

Markey needs to go. Im voting for Brian Barnwell on September 13th.

Forget about De Blasio and Hillary. Stick to the point.
Or....go and vote for Donny Dump and find out what real fascism feels like.

Is this video in the local news? Haven't seen any coverage. Can someone post it on Facebook?

Not for nothing, is it me? Were there ever so many homeless before? And why must the government solve all their problems? It's mostly black and immigrant families, why? They know that once they go in the shelter they will be fast tracked to what ever voucher it is that replaced section 8, working blah blah voucher, link voucher. White people can not get these subsidies in the rates that blacks and illegal immigrants do. There should be an investigation into this bias against whites.

I've been homeless. I solved my own problem. That's what white people do. Why can't blacks and illegal immigrants to that? Because they know they will make more money being officially homeless.

Thank you for sharing this video with the public. It was brave of you to do so. As a whistle blower, I know you may be picked on, but know your rights. Let us all know if anything or anyone brothers you.

All... sneaky sneaky. We need to all rise up against this backroom politics, pitting one community against another.

When he ask for alternative sites, that's exactly what he's doing. and guess what, not only will there be one shelter, DHS thanks you very much, they have another site... so the area two more shelters to contend with. That's the way they play. It's too lucrative for them not to.

VOTE these clowns out. rise up. Maspeth, Elmhurst Astoria, LIC, Averne, and the rest of Queens, we can't keep quiet anymore.
