Restaurant parking cars on the sidewalk

From PIX11:

Which popular Long Island City restaurant is using the city sidewalk to valet park its customers’ cars?

A tip from a PIX11 viewer claims Manetta’s restaurant on Jackson Avenue is the culprit.

The video we shot shows the lunchtime crowd pulling their cars up to the restaurant on the corner, where the sign outside says Valet Parking.

The two parking attendants then take those cars down the block on 11th Street, a public thoroughfare, where they park them up on the sidewalk, bumper to bumper.

The cars are sometimes parked so far up on the sidewalk that it’s impossible for pedestrians to pass by.

We spoke with the owner of the building and the manager of Manetta’s, who say the police have given them permission to park on the sidewalk, as long as there is a clear path left for pedestrians.

Now, I agree that Manetta's is in the wrong here, but Arnold Diaz could do a month-long series on rogue valet parking if he just went a bit north to Astoria.

What about little neck on northern Blvd? Il bacco and la grotta block the crosswalks constantly. Wonder who they're paying off to not get ticketed.

"The commander of the 108 is aware of the situation and will make sure the regulations are enforced" Yes that's because a news crew filmed it and called the 108 for a comment. HELLLLLOOOOOOO???? Had the 108 been aware of the situation AND enforced the law there would be no situation. I smell $$$$$$$$$. Donut money.

Go to Little Neck. Some (gotta be) mob restaurant on Northern Blvd. has the gall to reserve public street parking in front of their joint with traffic cones for their patrons. Wattsa matta...the local dons cannot afford limo service? Guidos and Guidettes frequent that place.

I live in the area and trust me that little street is almost hidden almost nobody uses it.

Granted they should not be using it as they do but come on Arnold are you running out of shameful material!! I know there is plenty worse out there!!

What about Verdi's located on 149-58 Cross Island Pkwy, Whitestone, NY 11357?

They place a valet parking cone in the middle of the street, last Saturday I was heading towards Long Island on the service road and right before Verdi's I almost had an accident because when I realized there was a traffic cone in the middle of the road that caught me by surprise I got a sudden scare. I'm not a young pup anymore and could caused a terrible accident right there, luckily I kept my composure and nothing happened, but, still...

What asshole gives his key away to someone to park his car?

No idea. I'd much rather park my car myself. That way I know where it is if I have to fetch something from it.

Everyone once President Trump revitalizes the economy by making every restaurant/hotel/store valet parking only!

Where else do you think they will make the jobs?

They started in NJ already, you can't pump your own gas anywhere.

The only ones who will truly be affected will be the hardworking young individuals hustling to make a few dollars in these difficult economic times.

At least some are making an attempt to pay off their enormous student loans.

Another unintended consequence...

Verdi's? Isn't that where Don Paulo Vallone, political mobster holds his fetes?
TUTTI MAFIOSI! Encore...elect the son of a bitch again. Uh...church... mob...politics. They are all connected at St. A's or St. L's or St. M's churches. Go to mass one day and see what shows up. The choirs really sing sopranno notes well.

Sorry, but if a traffic cone in the street is enough to give you a sudden scare and nearly cause you to be in an accident, you should not be driving.

You really should not call someone stupid if you can't tell the difference between "too" and "two"...

That umbrella station cracks me up.

What's also absurd is that these restaurants offer valet parking when they don't have a lot or the space to do this and they are located in busy streets. These are not opulent catering halls in the Hamptons or anywhere else in Long Island.

There's this restaurant in Rego Park that does this on Woodhaven Blvd. too. They don't park on the sidewalk but they got these guys zipping around the lanes and local streets. I guess there's some vain people out there that would like to feel like they're wealthy or celebrities.

I just remembered something from last year. Riding downhill on lefferts from Queens Blvd., I witnessed the most egregiously inappropriate use of valet parking at a restaurant by Hillside avenue where the republican club used to be. Now if anyone knows the area, you would know that even though it's a two-way street there, it's quite narrow and there is absolutely no room to park. But the management there were run by delusional dumbasses and had some saps maneuver cars on the short streets and doing k-turns on the blvd causing congestion by the jamaica and hillside ave intersections like it was hollywood and vine.

So this bullshit that stupid restaurant in LIC is just carrying on the tradition of improvised valet service with utter disregard for citizens with impunity. It only gets attention now because lazy PIX did a story on a woman's frustrations with a major car dealer that was using the sidewalks as storage.

But the real story is that there is a palpable sense of anarchy in the ether of this city. And it doesn't help anyone that the biggest anarchist and his big slow fat ass is not resigning from the office. It's become a veritable free-for-all everywhere you turn
