Deep freeze affecting transportation

From WPIX:

By land and by sea, the weather has been interrupting any trip around New York City for the past few days.

Most subway work is continuing through the weekend. Check mta.info for status updates.

The East River Ferry suspended rides again on Saturday due to ice in the river.

Along with the blaz's plans for sunnyside rails, this should put the brakes on the borough wide ferry plan. The Hudson has shelves that polar bears in the arctic would find comfort on.

At least we're not in Boston.

Just wondering how the bike. lanes are doing, y'know?

Those of us who must endure the incessant airplane noises are grateful for the blizzards and the storms that temporarily put a halt to JFK and LGA planes takeoffs and landings.

All of these new high tech switching systems are highly prone to adverse weather. "KISS" ....as in keep it simple stupid....is a warning against supreme belief in the super performance of complicated devices.

remember all those electeds telling us to "Take Mass Transit" ? Well mass transit for the most part is broken and unreliable in times of even a little stress.

The bike lanes are doing as well as the parks. Both are still usable for the few hardcore people who choose to utilize them in this weather.

Anyone using a bike lane on a day like today is just looking for a lawsuit after they are hit by a bus!

Would the MTA please ask Canada, Germany, Russia, Finland, and Switzerland why their railway tracks don't split in cold weather? And how they are able to maintain service in some of the harshest winter weather?

If we stop buying shit from China ....is that where these rails were made? Take a look at our sewer covers made in India. Buy American made if you can. If not German stuff is better. Porcelain and chow mean...OK if Chinese .

In Boston all the money meant for slowly replacing equipment, maintenance and upgrading went to line the pockets of the hacks aka the alleged transit workers. So now Boston's transit authority is 5 billion short on money to spend on the above. I have to think the same situation exists in NYC but not as bad. That what should be spent on maintenance is spent on salaries that hack politicians "negotiated" in sweetheart labor deals

And they are suggesting more ferries put into service? Maybe if we hire a Moscovite to revamp our transit system we might get ahead of the freeze.
