De Blasio's grammar problem

Yup, this was tweeted out yesterday. I suppose the author of this tweet graduated from CUNY with honors.

The Muni ID is here!

Oh, and there are application centers "across the city": 3 in Queens, 3 in Brooklyn and 3 in Manhattan, 2 in the Bronx and one in Staten Island! Which shows you how few of these they think they'll be giving out.

If I was here illegally, I would not dare sign up for one of these, but rather opt to stay in the shadows...

Do as I say, not what I do. He's an incompetent jerk and should not be mayor of NYC. What a nightmare!

Knocking CUNY is just a sign of ignorance on your part.

It doesn't matter anymore anyway....these illegals already are getting the same benefits as citizens get.....no use of complaining anymore because the government Can care Less About what actual Citizens have To say.

If you don't want to live in the shadows, go home.

Knocking CUNY is a sign that I attended it for 4 years. If you were a regular reader of this blog, you'd know that. High school was harder.

'Knocking CUNY is just a sign of ignorance on your part'

That has to be written by a lifelong City/CUNY employee!

Anyone seriously defending the glorified remedial High School that CUNY has become needs to have their head examined.

Wasn't it Hostos Community College, a part of CUNY, where the 'graduates' couldn't even read their diplomas in English?

The complete lack of standards has let CUNY become the joke it is now. I am sorry for people who went to CUNY through the early 1990's that now have to explain that their degrees meant something when they got them.

When I attended CUNY, there was an open admissions policy and you were guaranteed to get in so long as you had graduated from a NYC high school. Since most kids back then were victims of social promotion, they were enrolled in college courses without knowing how to read and add. So then the college material was dumbed down for them. It was a miserable 4 years, but thankfully I had 13 years before that of some serious education and was able to get past the CUNY stupidity in graduate school. I had a professor who told us on day one that he wasn't taking attendance and didn't care if we showed up and spent the rest of the semester telling dirty jokes.

The boy mayor said, "Those who live in the shadows should not be treated like second class citizens."

One has to be a citizen before being treated as second class.

Hunter College had excellent teachers in the '70's.

I am proud I survived CUNY and thrived in spite of my experience.

Been there, done that.

They have deliberately gimmicked the signup rates because they screwed-over many cultural institutions to accept these ID's as "membership" equivalent (in theory, only for the first year). Some people are going to obtain the ID to get those benefits. I will.

Otherwise, since they don't verify and copy the so-called verification documents, the ID's will be only accepted where they are by law required to be accepted.

Where can a citizen get the discounts attached to this stupid card?

As someone who graduated from CUNY Queens with high honors, I find your statement incredibly insulting.

I heard that the Queens Central Library here in Jamaica, which is one of the application centers, is limited to only 30 applications per day. (Is that possible?) People were on line yesterday before 8:30am, and I'm sure there were many who were disappointed.

Chill out Sergey. :~)

As for being in the shadows, bullcrap. They are living large and in your face. It is the citizens that are being relegated to second class status and the shadows.

I graduated with honors, too. It's really not that hard when your fellow classmates are learning what a subject and verb is while you learned that back in 3rd grade.

Anyone notice that the card does not need to be mailed? You can pick it up instead. So much for proof of residency...

I went to QCC and QC .... layoff knocking on us who went local!

Queens Crapper said...

I went local, too. Some of us graduated understanding how bad the system was and others didn't.

So CUNY is a pushover huh?
I take it no one here graduated with a math, science or accounting degree.
As for me I proudly worked my butt off and struggled academically to graduate.

Queens Crapper said...

I graduated with a science degree. What made it slightly difficult was the lack of enthusiasm of some of the tenured professors, not the material presented. But good for you, here's a pat on the back for struggling hard and making it.

The biggest outrage attending CUNY in the 1990s was that since everyone got in, there was a ton of financial aid doled out, and a lot of students looked at it as just a place to go socialize and never attend class. You'd see the same crew hanging out morning, noon and night, on the public dime. I don't know how many of these folks would actually stay in school or if they dropped out, but there was also a lot of social promotion on the college level back then. There also was a grade fixing scandal involving the registrar's office at the campus I attended. Only after Giuliani was elected and instituted some reforms did things start to change. For example, you still are guaranteed a seat in a CUNY school, but you are relegated to community college if you lack basic skills.

I attended the city's public schools, followed by CCNY and the Graduate Center. Proud of my education and equally proud that I am not drowning in student debt. It feels good to be financially independent.

Too often, those who misspell or show bad grammar are associated with public schools. That needs to stop.
