NYC may not get a soccer stadium after all

From Capital New York:

One Bronx official who has in the past been looped in on stadium developments told me, when I asked for an update, “It doesn’t seem to have the same fervor as it did a few months ago, the whole stadium deal.”

Back in April, New York City Football Club announced plans to play the next three seasons in Yankee Stadium, where, the Yankees have already made clear, the soccer tenants will be lucky if they can maintain second-tier status. It’s no one’s idea of a long-term solution, with soccer-only stadiums now a baseline requirement for a credible franchise.

The only Major League Soccer team currently playing in the New York market, the Red Bulls, play in their own stadium in Harrison, N.J.

“They won’t play in Yankee Stadium for the rest of the team’s future,” said Seifreid, correctly. “They’ve got to find someplace.“

Asked for comment, Risa Heller, a spokeswoman for NYCFC, said, "We are working closely with the de Blasio administration to find a world-class site for a soccer-specific stadium."

Soccer is not a popular sport in NYC or the US, period.

Not many actual Americans watch soccer unless the American team is playing in the world cup.

ESPN did a survey and found 18.7% of the people said they were soccer fans. same as baseball

The 18.7 who won't be able to afford tickets, perhaps.

Major media networks don't support it because they cant run commercials due to the nature of the game. There are no breaks in the action except at half-time.

That survey was among kids 12 to 17 years old not adults.

ESPN is fulla shit
Here in New York Manhattan to Montauk the only people I saw watching soccer were guys working in pizza and Greek joints.
It wasn't in sight AT ALL in South Carolina

1) How or why is soccer "being shoved down our throats"? Is there a big conspiracy afoot?

2) We need to watch FMCP carefully to be sure they don't restart that stupid idea of building a stadium there.

It's a shame more Americans don't play soccer. There are so many good actors to fake injuries.

I still don't see the problem with a FMCP stadium. It'll create jobs people! There's so much parkland there already that's just not being maintained. Less space for the vermin to litter on too. Oh yeah, how about the additional income for NYC? Oh, you don't want the immigrants selling crap there to pay taxes, that's right. You people that complain likely don't even go to that sewer of an area!

1) Soccer as a sport and a business will succeed or fail on its own. It cannot be "shoved down our throats". Personally, I think its a great sport to both play and watch, but no one can force it on you--have you ever been forced either to play or watch? What method of coercion did the soccer terrorists use?
2)Using the park for a stadium is just as bad as using it for a mall. Parkland is for walking, biking, picnicking etc. etc. not for commercial development, and to provide a few construction jobs for a few months. I don't believe Central Park or Prospect Park will be getting stadiums
3) I go there routinely

there,we have context now.

and if you want to be literal about it,its called football not soccer.and it will fail, unless the MSL sends commandos to our homes and holds us at gunpoint until we like it.
