All-Star Game advertises crumbling World's Fair

"So it's bad enough that the City of New York gave the Mets owners property worth $200 million for the paltry sum of $1. Now the Mets are incorporating World's Fair icons into their merchandising efforts to promote the 2013 MLB All Star Game being played at Citifield in mid-July. What really irks me about this is the New York State Pavilion is in a deteriorated condition that needs immediate remediation. With all the money that they'll be making, don't you think it would be appropriate to "step up to the plate" and repair the icon before it's too late? It can be a jewel in the Queens crown if done right. But then again...this is Queens!" - Alan

To the tune of the State Farm Insurance jingle:

Like a bad neighbor,
Wilpon is there!

We live in Queens, a borough of farmers, where nobody cares about 'nohtin!

"Hey Zeke, the crab grass is growin' like wheat on my front lawn this summer".

Make those effin idiots pay for its upkeep! What is wrong with our local pols? Do NOT vote for Vallone - friend to developers and big business - he will fuck over the inhabitants of Queens!

Look at the Steinway Mansion - anywhere else politicians would be proud to step up to the plate.

In Queens Vallone has them eyeing a potential building site for Queens Crap.

Ask Vallone why he is putting the cabash on it for the past 3 years - any community that takes pride in their neighborhood should understand that if he does that to his own community, what will he do to yours?

A great thing for the other beep candidates to pick up, doncha think?

Queens Crap is getting it's own building? Next: Pulitzer!

Funny. Here we have the Mets organization holding a fundraiser to pay for Claire Shulman's fines after she was caught illegally lobbying but they won't kick in a dime to preserve the iconic World's Fair structure that includes a "playhouse" named after that bovine former Burro president!!! Who does she think she is...Pee Pee Herman???

Looking at that one would think the Fair is happening now. I guess I don't get why the Mets would put nearly 50 year old monuments out to plug the All Star Game. But then again, crumbling monuments and crumbling team make a nice pair.

Perhaps someone who has national mass media contacts will turn them onto this travesty. The Mets and Wilpon/Katz's are using the '64/65 Worlds Fair images to promote their all star game, they are attempting to gobble up parkland for their privately owned mall, they are trying to steal the land from under small businesses for their own business and they flim-flammed the investing public by using Madoff and his ill gotten gains for their own purposes.

All of this and not to mention putting a shitty product on the baseball field for several seasons and charging the public outrageous prices to view athletic incompetence and eat sub-standard food.

One would think that the media would be all over this and embarrass the Wilpons and The Met organization to re-hab the Worlds Fair images that they are exploiting.

But hey, everyone is into ripping off Queens including the media. The NY Times moved in and then did nothing for the borough. One of our congressman used his newspaper to hustle hookers and the mayor, the owner of a huge media empire, tries to foist a soccer stadium and an expansion of the tennis center by giving away valuable parkland.

Where is the coverage of political sleight of hand???

Typical example of why Queens is in the state it's in! Support the Wilpon family. They need the money! Who cares about anyone else?

PS Hey Bozo. The word is now and not know. Sheesh! And I is usually capitalized but in your (lower) case...

I second that thought.

The Mets and the USTA simply *LOVE* to use the park as a promotional tool, but apparently feel no obligation to help maintain it.

Well put, the Mets should be helping in giving a face lift to the park and it's iconic buildings. Lots o tourists want to come a see the place but when they see the abandonment of the area they feel that the trip was not worth the effort.

They should have added in the Trylon and Perisphere from the 1939. Heck it's only 25 years further in the past.

The Park has been a shithole since I graduated from John bowne in 72. Pave it over and make it a giant Asian mall.

Maybe partial proceeds should go to the upkeep of the fairgrounds

Please don't forget all this awareness for the pavilion has gain momentum since the Paint Project was started by J. Piro in 2009. We have been working hard trying to raise awareness and restore dignity to the pavilion by donations through a grass roots effort- http://www.gofundme.com/1se3vg

We support Matthews efforts for his film to document the rich history for the pavilion and hope it continues showing how important the pavilion and the park is.

There is pressure to have the 'tenants' of Flushing Meadows Corona Park start paying their fair share towards park maintenance and projects. Keep your voices loud and actions louder.
