Rockaway A train is back in business May 30th

From the NY Post:

‘A’ train service will roll back to the Rockaways on Thursday, May 30, Gov. Cuomo announced today.

Superstorm Sandy wiped out hundreds of feet of track and miles of signal, communications and power cables serving the Rockaways. The ‘A’ train now runs only as far as Howard Beach, where Rockaways-bound riders have to board buses to finish their trips.

After an “all-out” effort by MTA employees and contractors, 1,500 feet of track has been restored, and two stations that were completely flooded were rehabilitated.

The MTA has also installed two miles of corrugated marine steel along its Jamaica Bay right-of-way it hopes will protect the track against future storms.

So what?
Rockaway has been "out of business" for decades.
It's at the far end of the Earth....and nobody seems to care.

Has "Arverne By The Sea" been converted to section 8 housing yet?

Oh, there's plenty of "H"..."smack"..."horse" still around in the Rockaways..."weed" is plentiful too.

Section 8 territory is where the pushers are located.
$25 can score you a good smoke of "Hydro".

Someday, Rockaway will just float away.

Has anyone taken a look at some of the stairways leading to some of those stations? What good is train service if you can't make it up to the platform?

When was the last time that you looked at the stairways? They were all rebuilt in the last year.

Averne by the Sea was built with Section 8 for middle class. built with HPD, DOB and DHCR money which could have been used to create housing for homeless people instead. 30 year income tax abatement. but some how the same crap going on in the condos. maintenance keeps going up and up even when they got the federal Sandy money.

The best part is that Averne by the Sea is surrounded on three sides by NYCHA housing projects full of gang bangers with multiple pit balls and chips on their shoulders with guns in their hands.

It only took MTA 8 months to get the train back and how much federal money? doesn't anyone question why our fares keep going up but we have worse service?

Anon No. 7:

Would you have preferred that the MTA not repair the line?
