Still crapping up Meyer's Hotel
George the Atheist took these photos at the request of yours truly. Of course, pictured is what was once Meyer's Hotel at 58th Street and 39th Avenue in Woodside.
There still are no permits applied for and no violations on record, but the owner certainly is busy tearing up the yard. A portion of the retaining wall appears to have been removed without a permit.
A couple of years ago, I spoke with someone who babysat a child that lived in the house who said there still were ornate details inside, but I can just imagine what it must look like now.

Those interior ornate details will wind up in a dumpster if they haven't already been illegally dumped somewhere.
The owner deserves to be in a dumpster along with a few folks at the LPC.
along with a few folks at the LPC.

A few? More like a phew!!!
I like how they immediately chopped down the trees. must be illegal immigrants doing the work.
Look carefully in the window of the upper right photo. A Mexican flag used as a curtain.
Hey, Crapper. Who owns this property now?
It'll be turned into a cho-cha house.
I must say that 38th Avenue from the Meyer's Hotel site on 58th Street going west to 61st Street and east to Woodside Avenue, is one of the most bucolic areas in the city. Walk down that thoroughfare and you feel you're in the country.
I'm afraid that ambiance will change next year when the proposed elementary school starts construction on 38th Avenue, cater-corned across from Meyer's Hotel.
Me bad. Make that stroll on 39th Avenue.
I used to live there from 2000-2008; landlady sold it shortly after. Great place to live but it was old. Most people don't know how historic it is. Nice to see it on the website.
I'm not convinced that the work they're doing is so "blasphemous". The brickwork is obviously being done by someone talented and removing the retaining wall and earth is bringing a lot more light to the property and giving it a better scale. Let's not forget that it was the LIRR work that changed the grade of the property in the first place necessitating the ugly block retaining wall. I pass by this place several times a day and I'll let you all know if I see anything horrific happening.
i currently live here ,but its sad to say the owner doesn't keep it maintained like it should be. :( I'm all for restoring the historic beauty in this house .
