Food stamp rush causes crowded facilities

From the Wall Street Journal:

Growing numbers of New Yorkers seeking food stamps have created an unwelcome spillover effect at some of New York City's job centers: overcrowding that in some cases has grown so severe, benefits were jeopardized.

The crush of people grew so large at one Brooklyn center in November that the Fire Department intervened and prevented anyone from entering the building.

HRA spokeswoman Connie Ress blamed the overflow crowds on rising numbers of people seeking food stamps. The number of New Yorkers getting the benefit has increased by 200,000 in the past two years, jumping to 1.8 million from 1.6 million in late 2009. At the same time, the agency has consolidated some facilities, Ms. Ress said.

And how many of those people were born in this country? Or have paid their entire lives into the tax system?

I'm guessing not many.

The horse has been led to the water over and over on this site. Perhaps, the horse will now drink?

Free food? Why is it only 1.8 million? Rather than being an opt-in, for New Yorkers make it an opt-out program. That's right, free food stamps given out, no questions asked, you get them and you mail them back if you don't want them.

a left wing person has been buying food stamps from a free loader, at a profit, so that the freeloader can pay cash for products like cigarets, and alcohol.

a photo card must be presented when using food stamps.if this is not the law ,it should be.

49,million people in America are using food stamps, now. what a gangster government.

Every city agency that you go to the wait is long and its crowded. What makes the welfare office so special that everyone is up in arms when it happens there?

funny how illegal aliens get food stamps cards with OUT their picture ID but American Citizens are fingerprinted and photographed.

hey who's buying food stamps? I wanna know. it's usually a crap exchange 1/2 the value for yankee dollar. means
$200 worth of food stamps gets you $100 cash.

Have you forgotten what's like to wait at a Motor Vehicle Bureau? or wait when called as a juror? aren't all gov't agencies crowded?

And Guv Cuomo wants Bloomberg to abandon the city's practice of electronically fingerprinting food stamp recipients.

This time I stand with Mayor Mike.

Maybe we'll catch some illegal aliens.

No wonder some of these food-stampers don't want to be fingerprinted.

You should see the government free food pantry line at Macedonia AME Church in Flushing.

It's mostly all Asian!

I'll send in the cell phone video I shot to show the long line-up.

Peanut butter, cheese...what else do they disperse?

H-m-m-m....maybe the Chinese then sell these hand outs for profit.

I wouldn't put it past those corrupt scroungers!
