Something smells rotten in Queens

From the Daily News:

As the mercury rises across New York, so do the odors emanating from the streets.

Some are fabulous, like freshly brewed coffee or pastries. Others — like the stench of steaming garbage — are far from it. Here, we chronicle some of the best and worst smelling spots in the city.

BEST:

Queens residents say the best time to take in the sumptuous smells at Grimaldi's Bakery in Ridgewood is early in the morning or late at night, and it has them reaching for their wallets to buy a loaf.

"It's a very good fresh aroma in the morning," said Maggie Colon, 32, who is often awakened by the amazing smell. "I love coming through here in the morning, I love the smell of the bread."

Chris Jurcec, 35, said the scent reminds him of childhood. "To sum it up in one word: delicious," Jurcec said. "
think about my grandmother baking bread in the morning."

WORST:

Residents say the trash piles up along Flushing Bay Promenade, making it a no-go zone when the temperatures are rising.

"It smells like human waste," said Tony Gomes, 21, adding that he really wishes the area smelled better.

Javier Lopez, 22, blames people who leave their litter. "That's why we're walking so far away, so we don't have to smell it," Lopez said. "It smells rotten, or like something's decomposing."

Good story, one which is widely talked about. In the city itself, it smells so bad at the curb, that the strong acrid smell seeps into the subway platforms, buses and office buildings.

Did you know for all the faults of the French capital, Paris and other major cities on continental Europe, that the street curbs are hosed down each and every day during the spring - fall seasons? Why is the Mayor immune to these smells and does nothing to eliminate it?

The smells in Queens go more than the city - a result of overdevelopment and declining infrastructure -

but since the locals are conditioned that development (using their taxes so someone else benefits) is good they will find any other excuse even when their noses are 'litterly' rubbed in it.

The KFC and Burger King on Northern Boulevard in Flushing always have palatable smells after their meat is cooked.

I didn't know that gangs have different smells. so the palatable smells after the meat is cooked is actually the MS-13 smell. makes perfect sense... what do the bloods and LK smell like??? ignorance is a wonderful thing i guess... ohh btw, I love the smell from the grimaldi's on grandview in Ridgewood. I live about 3 blocks away from there and every time i pass thru there that aroma is intoxicating...
