On Feb. 13, 2009, Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 at the urging of President Obama, who signed it into law four days later. A direct response to the economic crisis, the Recovery Act has three immediate goals:
* Create new jobs as well as save existing ones
* Spur economic activity and invest in long-term economic growth
* Foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending
Freaking awesome! Let's see how many jobs have been created in Queens due to federal stimulus money. Here's a sample:
The data on this map reflects reports submitted in January 2010 by recipients of federal contracts, grants, and loans awarded from October 1 to December 31, 2009. Also included is data on completed and incomplete Recovery projects awarded from February 17, 2009 to September 30. The job numbers reported by recipients are for October 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009 only.
Or maybe they're just fantasy jobs. Because I see a lot of zeroes there.
