From the Village Voice:Around six o'clock this morning, police say thieves broke into St. Helen's Church in Howard Beach, then into the sacristy, and stole a chalice. Here's a picture; if anyone tries to sell it to you, you'll know it wasn't obtained by honest means.

Maybe someone needed a stake for the next card game.
Obviously, the perp has not been to Church in a long time, otherwise he would have known there's nothing there that is both valuable and easy to fence.
