The man who wanted to be mayor

From BoroPolitics:

Weiner began the forum, which had many in attendance holding placards reading, ‘Medicine for all,’ explaining a giant pie chart showing that $2.2 trillion in taxpayer money was spent annually on health care.

The congress member then argued that now is the time to bring in a single-payer system that does away with private health insurance.

During Weiner’s pitch, however, one audience member, Tim Prakope, began to question some of the congressman’s facts.

At this point, Prakope began to get into a shouting match with Weiner, stating he was a Brooklynite that doesn’t stand for bullies who interrupt meetings like little children at the dinner table.

“Let me tell you something. I eat guys like you for breakfast,” Weiner said.

After Prakope, who declined to say what neighborhood he lived in, quieted down, Weiner went on to pick and choose questions written from audience members without allowing anyone to speak.

Meanwhile, audience members continued to raise their hands and after Weiner ignored them for some time, they began to erupt with boos and howls to allow some others to speak.

He'll be back next year, hoping we all forgot his impudence.

We won't forget. We won't forgive. We won't tolerate any more of this arrogance.

So, Weiner, come on back next year, demanding that we vote to reelect you.

Get ready now; prepare yourself for the reaction.

You're another goner. Along with your true love, Schumer.

Bye, bye. Ta ta.

Wiener is going to win by a landslide. Again. As usual. You numbnuts cant even find a credible Repub. to run against him.

Bunch of urban rednecks you all are. Go find your cousin.

....you sound like you have uttered that term before.

He is a wimp. If he didn't bow out of the mayors race, he could have given Bloomberg a run for the money. Definitely would have trounced Thompson.

My first thought, too, although I decided not to go there in the post.

Good for Weiner. It's time for the Democrats to stand up to these uncivilized town hall hecklers. Barney Frank fought back, and Anthony Weiner did too.

Every other first-world country has public health care, and so should we.

right on! when someone questions a democrat, they are a "heckler"; but when they question a republican, they are a "dissenter"

you tell them! no double-standard here!

I didn't have much use for Weiner before, but he has been brilliant on the health care issue. He's extremely knowledgeable on the subject, and has been a consistent, passionate voice for reform.

To anonymous - it's not acceptable to interrupt meetings and shout down speakers, no matter which party one belongs to.

So, you're criticizing Weiner for arrogantly interrupting every questioner, then asking himself the question he preferred, and then answering his own question?

To you, that's a dialog? A useful exchange?

On a related issue: "Congress shall make no law ...".

Yet, congress itself creates a protocol (rule, law) forbidding any heckling of the president.

Heckling IS legal. Heckling is great! No politician - no politician at all - is sacred. So, heckle away!

It humbles the arrogant. If they cannot think on their feet quickly, dump them.

They answer to us. Not the other way 'round.
