Case of the pilfered flugelhorn

Man's Trumpet, Pricey Flugelhorn Stolen on the N Train

NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a thief who made off with a musician's pricey flugelhorn after he fell asleep on a New York City subway train.

The 29-year-old musician was on the N-train bound for Astoria in Queens last week and nodded off. When he awoke as he approached the Ditmars Boulevard station, he noticed his black leather case missing.

Police say the case held both the curvy, Swiss-made horn and a Bach Stradivarius trumpet.

The trumpet retails for about $2,000 and the flugelhorn more than $5,000. He reported the thefts on Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hot line at 1-800-577-TIPS.

And two Good Samaritans have offered to replace one of his horns.
