Hiring freeze legitimate or political ploy?

From The Politicker:

Michael Bloomberg is ordering a hiring freeze for the city, in response to the State Senate’s inaction, which the mayor said has already cost the city $60 million.

The hiring freeze includes 250 police recruits sent to enter the academy this week, along with:

150 firefighters

151 traffic agents

34 emergency 911 operators

175 school safety agents

150 school crossing guards

90 emergency medical technicians

20 311 operators

"I urge Senators in both parties to put aside their political differences and approve the City’s revenue plan so we can move forward with providing the core services that New Yorkers rely on,” Bloomberg said in a public statement.

political ploy, why doesn't he freeze the millions of our money given to Bruce Ratner and all of the other real estate developers

What can I say besides he's full of it.

How many positions are being eliminated because of the Wallets Point project and the hundreds of millions of dollars allocated so far? If we are going to eliminate police cadets, why do we need a HUGE police academy in College Point right now? Why wait until November? Let's get rid of the 'Turd right now!

How about cutting back on city planning?

How about developers' tax breaks?

If to keep these programs going, firefighters not hired, does this mean he is endangering people's lives so that development may continue?

Why has the press not asked these questions?

All of these things have to be cut when the money isn't coming. I am not a fan, but I put the blame for this squarely on Albany. Bloomberg is a mediocre mayor but he doesn't attack people in the street--that's reserved for the Senatorial level.

Oh, city planning has received the same cuts as every other department. Trust me, they're not hiring.

Are you a troll? I don't think the poster was speaking about city planning hiring additional personnel. It is the SPENDING by city planning i.e Wallets Point that causes layoffs and hiring freezes. How does Bloomturd justify the hundreds of millions of dollars allocated to projects that give advantage to developers and real estate moguls while NYC is dealing with shortfalls?

That whole thing is bs.city workers retire every day. They are at the top of the pay scale.New hires generally start at 70% and take 3-4 years to top out(execpt cops/firefighters take 5 1/2 years).see the savings? Smoke and mirrors..........

Imagine the poor people who left jobs in the middle of a terrible recession only to be sc#wed this way?

Are you a mental midget? I don't think you know what the "poster" was "speaking" about. Last I checked, this post was about a hiring freeze. Thus, my statement that city planning is not hiring is completely legit and relevant.

Here, have a lollipop.

Suck on this, asswipe! The commenter was suggesting that the city is spending money that can be used elsewhere such as saving and creating jobs rather than using our tax dollars on huge developments that benefit certain friends of the mayor. Let us not forget that his campaign promise is to create or keep 400,000 jobs. The title of this post is ""Hiring freeze legitimate or political ploy?" and it was suggested that these hiring freezes are political in nature and unnecessary if the bloodsucking developers and real estate interests were not getting large chunks of the budget. How much has been wasted on the Willets Point debacle? How many jobs does all that money represent? Who cares if the city planning is hiring or not? The person was suggesting that development should be cut back until the economy improves. Apparently your reading comprehension skills are subpar. The point is that money is going to places that do not benefit NYC residents. Why don't you answer the questions presented instead of being an asshole? Once again, suck on this!
