From NY1:
Queens Plaza in Long Island City is getting a facelift thanks to some additional federal funding.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney announced Monday that $37M in federal funds will go towards structural improvements and beautification efforts of Queens Plaza extending to the East River. This is on top of $19M already secured for the Queens Plaza roadway rebuilding project. The project is already underway and is being overseen by the City's Parks Department.

Add this to Bloomberg's list of projects that are highly touted and funded but will never see the light of day....

Maybe you missed the part that said "The project is already underway".
Passed by the Plaza last night. Looks like they fenced in the island at Queens Plaza North and 29 Street where the millstones are embedded.

Yes, maybe they will 'vanish' in storage.
Why does this woman only show up in Queens for a development project, or something to help the developers?
Does she support the community in Yorkville with anything, or is she also responsible for the hideous transformation of E 86th St?
Our next $enator? Good Heaven$!
This is one of those "it is what it is" cases.
Queens Plaza was badly laid out a century ago..and you can still visualize how grim it must have been when the second ave elevated train came across the QB and the Plaza station was -twice as wide-.
The strip joints and dregs waiting for the Rikers buses don't add anything to the ambiance, but there isn't much practical that can be done here.
Most people pass through this area in a matter of seconds and, I do not see spending huge sums just to raise property values for some developers.

Jeez, I love condescension and sarcasm. Sure, the eyesore parking lot has been torn down to make way for luxury residences, but if you think Queens Boulevard will resemble the tree-lined champs elysees in the renderings, you have another think comin'.

The Plaza was beautiful when first planned - a park with trees and flowers.
It lasted about 3 years then they let the local pols take over.
Do you think they/the developers even know about the millstones? i noticed they were blocked off and thought - uh oh. another piece of history that'll be shot to hell.
