Times makes Frozen Cup story about race

From the NY Times:

While New York is often praised as a gorgeous mosaic, ethnic tensions are hardly unknown in the city, especially in neighborhoods that undergo rapid demographic shifts. Sometimes tensions are expressed overtly; other times, they lurk under the surface, revealing themselves in conversations that can be heard in local bars and living rooms.

That is the case in Bellerose.

Opponents of the planned Days Inn insist that their primary concern is not the race of the hotel entrepreneurs but the community’s quality of life. Still, many of what are seen as unwanted changes have arrived with the South Asian immigrants, a fact that invariably comes up in discussions about the fate of the Frozen Cup.

Here I was concerned that the Times might actually go a week without Archie Bunkerizing Queens. The way this and other papers play it is that if the endangered building is in Manhattan, the desire to save it indicates neighborhood pride and a sense of history. If people in Queens want to save a building, it must be because they hate immigrants.

I wonder why the Times bothers to deliver papers here when they despise Queensites so much.

There's the week, there's the weekend and then there's the weekender.

I want to strangle that woman.

People in Queens are biased and harbor racism?

Where did the NY Times, ever get a crazy idea like that?

Queens is the "Garden Spot" of human and subhuman diversity. They have 'their' neighborhoods and we have ours.

And the biggest racists live in condo towers in Manhattan. Which borough is more diverse? Ours. And its not because we can't stand living with each other.

That's a shame, it's a very slanted article, that's for sure. The reader of the article isn't even given the opportunity to make up his own mind, it's thrown in his face right at the headline.

Of course it could be "argued" that "The Great Divide" refers to the fact that Bellerose is right on the dividing line between Queens and Nassau, but It's obvious it's just a play on words.

It's practically shoved down our throats that the Augugliaros are against new people moving in, yet they speak the same things that a lot of people that have lived in NYC for more than just a couple of years have said for quite some time: What happened to "fitting in" with the neighborhood that you've just moved into? There's no sense of community with a lot of the newcomers.

Just look at the recent Times Ledger article about Mr. Singh, a candidate for City Councilman in that area. His whole "act" is to get "his people" to unite and come out and vote for him, so he can work for them as a city employee. Nice. What does that say to those who aren't "roti-eating peoples" as he calls them? I think that says a lot.

It's okay for someone like Mr. Singh to speak up and state things like that, but not someone like Mr. Augugliaro? That's a nasty double standard.

BOYCOTT THE TIMES!!!

but then we have them telling us what was meant by a monkey in the post. When we all know the monkey wasn't obama but the bill was so bad a chimp or a caveman could have wrote it.

Is this the same NYT that failed to refute the imbecilic statement by the newly installed, first black US Attorney General (who believes in invading homes with violence to kidnap a child so as to return him to Castro, and who believes in pardoning tax cheats, and who believes that killer terrorists in other nations are protected by the US Constitution, but our GIs are all unprotected criminals) who just said that we are a "nation of racial cowards"?

This moronic statement within weeks of the inauguration of the first black to be elected after winning an election overwhelmingly.

And after the news that Charlie Rangel - who WRITES the tax laws - refuses to pay his taxes because they are so confusing. Oh, yeah, Rangel is black.

And, after the newly appointed Black senator from Illinois finally admitted that he paid for his appointment.

This same US Attorney General, who made that deliberately incendiary remark may well be required to investigate the crimes of the above mentioned.

Exactly how did the NYT refute the moron?

Oh. By once again bashing Queens. By once again lying.

I am looking forward to a NYT article bewailing the sanitization of Manhattan pushing out dark skinned peoples and immigrants.

I am further looking forward to ACRORN and the boys to picket communities in Manhattan for not providing affordable housing to brownskinned peoples.

Archie Bunker is the single most damanging image in the history of Queens borough for he has taken away the voice of its residents.

Archie Bunker is right up there with Sambo, Jose Jemananiz, Shylock and Charlie Chan as a negative racial sterotype.

I call for the weekly newspapers of Queens to stand up for our borough, and write editorials condemming him.

I call for him to be banned to the dustbin of history.

Gery? Vicky? Roz? Tony? Walter?

What are you waiting for?

Has the NY Times ever been to Bellerose?

...in the summer??

Have they come for ice cream when the entire parking lot is filled with people?

It's a local hangout -- a community thing, which I guess a paper like the NY Times does not understand despite their "Living in..." page of the Real Estate section.

Look out for Ugly Betty. She is going to do as much damage as Archie.

Anonymous said...

Naw we already have her pegged:

'Ugly Betty' is street slag for 'Gang Tags'.

"There is an Ugly Betty on the building next door and the absentee landlord just shows up to collect the rent."

See? She is already on the way out.

The New York Times is a dinosaur awaiting its own burial...a future fossil!

They're already in hock up to their eyeballs with readership plummeting!

They only time that a Times reporter gets in touch with Queens is through the window of a passing jitney bound for the Hamptons!

It really doesn't matter what they say any more.
It amounts to just a death rattle!

Local hangout ?

Naaaaa mostly Paki's and scumbag bikers in Bellrose.
Asians cant eat ice cream.

That area changed for the worse.
During the summer the curry cooking stinks so bad you can smell it in Floral Park.

When the humidiety is high driving around grease up your windshield so bad windex doesnt work. You have to pre-wipe with Gumout first

Bellerose is beautiful place to live. You are just jealous because, you don't live in Bellerose , you can't afford to buy a house. HA! HA!

Now now now. How can they call Queens residents racists?

Well, look over at everyone's favorite website, astorians.com, where you cant critcise developers or pols, but they positively CREAM in their pants that their community is fillin up with Mexican restaurants:

http://www.astorians.com/community/index.php?topic=14036.0

You see, the human condition never fails to amaze us.

Maybe when these kids fresh off the farm graduate to Manhattan, they will be looking for the same.

Boy oh boy are they going to be disappointeed!

Jimmy Breslin once called Queens "the Athens of America".

That's when Jamaica-raised Gov. Mario Cuomo used to pontificate about everything.

Archie Bunker is right. Try being a black female walking around Metropolitan Ave in Ridgewood sometime. With morons and a--holes screaming the "N" and "C" words out of their stupidly souped up cars.

I"m describing a friends experience around here. I personally have never seen so many idiots and morons. They must've filmed the "my new haircut" quido edition in this neighborhood. Idiots driving their cars with sub woofers just about knocking the windshields out. Zooming around at 80mph to get from one red light to the other.

The whole area must average out at room temp. as far as IQ goes.

What a bunch of morons here in Ridgewood, Middle Village, Glendale and Maspeth.

As far as the Times article goes. If the shoe fits, wear it.

Sad thing is ol' Archie wasn't a villian...just a plain guy with a functioning conscience..and quite a capacity for learning..played by a man noted for his compassion, lack of bigotry, and familiar with the loss of family to drugs..

Well thats kind of right.
I already have 2 and dont have to afford them since they are already paid for.

If I wanted to live in a multcultural sh*thole that reeks of Curry and has goat "parts" and garbage on sidwalks for these hindoo rituals?

You cant even get Gritts or fresh eggs with your breakfast ?
(Polish breakfast with Gritts&Big Coffee $3.75 in Southold cooked by nice old ladys)

Aw come on, every time we used to try to clean up the back yard our nice south asian neighbor used to pop out through the window to give us curried goat and wiskey.

On a hot summer day in July.

That was tolerable, but his nephews selling drugs, setting fire to our trash can, littering out stoop, playing reggea music at all hours and writing 'white people off the block' on our chimney on the roof made life a bit challenging.

But since it doesn happen in Brooklyn Heights, in Douglaston or Malba where the Queens pols live, or where the NYT movers and shakers live (outside of the city) it is just not important.

Besides, if open my mouth I would be an Archie, right?

Sure, now if you were a white male and tried to walk from Ridgewood Queens into Ridgewood Brooklyn on a hot summer day you have all the brothas n sistas glowering at you from their stoops.

So your point is what?

Wow, you got this right. Maybe, just maybe, this is what the people in Bellerose are concerned about.

They have friends and relatives and co workers that lived in places like Canarsie or Laurelton that shared stories that never get written, or never discussed in Brooklyn Heights.

Before Queens Crap, we used to sit silently and suffer.

No more.

Another reason to ditch that odeious symbol.

Anyone that invokes that smear on the people of Queens is no friend to Queens.

As someone who lives around the corner from the frozen cup I can say I DONT CARE who owns or where they are from. I just dont want a hotel on the block. Its a residential neighborhood there is no place for it here. I will miss the Frozen Cup and wish it would stay but at least give us a business that fits in the neighborhood. This is not about who owns it but what they want to put there. And the Augugliaros are not how they seem in this article they care about the neighborhood and want to see to stay a family friendly place it is. At least they are involved in changing things not sitting waiting for someone else to do the work.

and Joe you are an idiot

That attitude is why your neighborhood is becoming a cesspool !
It happens slowley so you dont notice it.

You already have what equates to hotels --they are call Bangladesh family’s, ministrys, and NS hospital student worker barricks.
Your schools are packed like sardines cans about to bust.

Im an Idiot for calling a Sheep a Sheep ?
Wake up and smell the Curry.

Bellerose resident here, and I agree with this. There are atleast a dozen houses whose addresses I know that have about 4 or 5 families living in them. Then there are land plots that about 15 or so people chip in to buy, build a gigantic house, and stuff about 35 people into. These are plots where a house would hold a family of 4 or 5, and now we have 30 extra people stuffed in.
