Rep. Suozzi and friends condemn Governor Kathy's push for ADUs

 Long Island Press

U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), a candidate for governor, on Thursday joined a broad coalition of mayors, town supervisors, and civic leaders from Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens to oppose Gov. Kathy Hochul’s stated plans to eliminate single-family zoning laws in New York and dramatically alter the housing landscape across the state.

“Governor Hochul’s radical proposal would take away zoning control from municipal governments, erode local government authority, and end single-family housing across New York,” said Suozzi. “Hochul’s plan to eliminate home rule is not what we need. I support affordable housing, building up around downtown train stations, and helping the homeless. I oppose eliminating home rule and ending single-family housing.”

Suozzi was directly responding to Hochul’s recent State of the State Address, where the governor vowed to fix what she called outdated land-use laws that hold back housing supply.

This includes changing zoning laws for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) such as backyard cottages, attics, garages, and basements, which can provide an affordable multi-generational housing option that helps families live closer together. But current land use restrictions prevent homeowners in some communities from building ADUs.

To permit these vital options and help reduce housing costs, Hochul will propose legislation to require municipalities to allow a minimum of one ADU on owner-occupied residentially zoned lots.

In New York City, this legislation would require creation of an amnesty program to legalize existing ADUs, with an expectation that they are brought into compliance with key building code requirements to ensure resident safety, but also provide some flexibility for the City to exempt some units from specific Multiple Dwelling Law (MDL) provisions without further New York State legislation.

Among the items Suozzi and the local electeds see as questionable in the legislation is that it would eliminate home rule. Under Hochul’s proposal, Towns would no longer have control of their local land-use regulations. The proposal would decimate local zoning control, which is the bedrock of New York’s local governments, Suozzi and the local electeds argued.

Another Split tonged snake fulla shit.
Suozzi did more damage in Sea Cliff and Glen Cove back some 15 years ago when he was supervisor with rezoning for ADUs and schmoozing developers then anybody in the history of the town. He created a slumlord haven of rentals, rentals and more rentals for illegals and the same shit with section 8s.
They tossed his ass out come election time. Too little too late because now towns in North Hempstead are doing the same thing.

These people want to drive out the good private single homeowners by handing all the slumlords carte blanch. Under this proposal the slumlords (usually foreigners who pool their money) will be lining up to buy and convert single family homes to collect 4 to 6 section 8 or cash voucher NYCHA rents.
Remember COVID was the a magic bullet that allowed the bastards to create the Tenant Safe Harbor Act, Chapter 127 of 2020. Its job is to protects tenants from eviction for failing to pay their rent and make landlords miserable and near bankrupt with no recourse other then agree to making the tenant section 8 if they want to ever see rent money.

Now many landlords especially SLUMLORDS are moving to Section 8 only to ensure guaranteed rent payment from the government.
Some neighbor will always cash out and spoil every home on the street.
It was originally called blockbusting, all the above is by design. They are coping what Scandinavian country's did to get things done and rammed down throats.

This progressive liberal bullshit hick governors and state legislator is far more detrimental then the Cuomo I and Cuomo IIs days.
I said a wile back here on QC the socialists would be coming to nuke both private homeownership and destroy all good neighborhoods they feel are not on board with their agenda.
Sure enough is under the guise of "infrastructure improvements" we will have cellars, roofs, porches, RVs and garages as legal living space
Holy shit am I glad I sold the house in Manhasset (a town now run by all democrats) Those stupid old "no that's not gonna happen, your crazy" homeowners who had their ass in the sand, mirror ball playroms the past 30 years are being killed with $32,000+ 1 kitchen 1/2 acre town, county and school taxes and actually now need ADLs to collect guaranteed sec 8s rent$ to afford the homes.
This will be repeated throughout the whole state if ADL is implemented at gunpoint.

Joe needs a local civics lesson. Manhasset isn't run by anyone. It is a hamlet.

Dear Joe -- This IS THE WHOLE STATE!! Hochul wants to END HOME RULE throughout the New York State. That means that no local governments will have any say in whether there is a single family home or not. There go the trees and gardens.

Look up Accessory Dwelling Units in California and Minneapolis. These people think it is selfish to live in a home that you have worked hard to earn.

Mayor Adams is in support of this idea. Communities need to be aware and people need to understand what and who is on the ballot come November.

"If you live in a garage where do you take a dump"

Like in California neighborhoods like San Pedro they put the toilets up on boxes dig these canal latrines and run a gravity fed PVC waste pipes into them.
Same shit in East Hampton neighborhoods like Springs, North Sea and around Montauks Fort Pond (Navy Street) where those Hollywood and rich people house the domestic help and illegal service industry.
The illegals with no heath checks, no health cards also pick all the local produce.

We had a house in Mattituck, the neighborhood went to shit so fast as soon as Obama and Democrats elected. They immediately handcuffed the police, handcuffed the judges, schmoozed all the farmers, developers and illegals with ADU amnesty and rubber stamp legalization. Result: MORE illegals, MS-13 running drugs, drug addicts robbing everything not bolted down we had to sell it and take near a $80K loss.
Over 6 or so incidents the bastards busted the garage door and stole the gas cans for the riding mower tractor, copper wire & pipe. Also removed the filler cap and siphoned the houses heating oil, stole BBQ gas. Cops do NOTHING because 1/2 the people doing the crime are kids of family members. Its all super nepotism, the police, fire, council members, supervisor.
Cops let a drunk drivers leaving the winery go yet give me a noise a ticket for pool party with live band. They wont jeopardize $100,000 donations from the winery's
That I fought& won that in court because the dumb bonic redneck cops didn't understand sound, nor the A, B or C weighting and reading the DB scales on a hand held decibel meter.

Joe nailed it, regarding the destruction of Glen Cove and the quaint Village of Sea Cliff (because of Sleazy Suozzi) as well as the failed political climate of the entire East End (both north and south forks).

I own a home in Sea Cliff, and I summer in Water Mill where I have a waterfront vacation home. Now, I only visit during the off peak seasons because of rampant crime, corruption and those ever present, ❝ ... dumb, bonic [sic] redneck cops.❞ Now, both forks ironically have more in common with the rapid decay and lawlessness QUEENS County than they ever had in the history of the slow (and detrimentally willful effects) of the 'peace of mind'- robbing urbanization of the Hamptons, all of which has been destroyed by a lethal SCOURGE of DemonRat neo-liberalism that only truly entered the destruction phase, just as soon as a corporate obedient, pathological, treasonous, traitorous war criminal like 'O-BOMB-YA' murdered flag and country, with a vengeful impunity that remains unprecedented, to date.

We, the People are the new, endentured slaves of a 'Pandemic of Lawless, Overreaching Bureaucracy' that is now completely tantamount to a catistrophic moral crime of 'NAKED GREED,' cognitive dissonance AND Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), three forms of mental illness for which there IS no cure——and the ever languishing public be eternally duped, bilked, scammed and damned (replete with the blessing of politicians [NOT public servants!], the bastion of hypocrisy more commonly known as the Catholic Church (a/k/a 'The FAITH Business') and the oppressed-and-silent taxpayer-at-large!

❝Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right.❞ ——George Carlin

❝Sooner or later the people in this country are going to realize: The government does not give a fuck about them. The government doesn’t care about you, or your children, or your rights, or your welfare, or your safety. It simply doesn’t give a fuck about you. It’s interested in its own power. That’s the only thing keeping it and expanding it wherever possible.❞ ——George Carlin
