Zombie home is a blight on Flushing
From CBS 2:
Fed up in Flushing – residents say home in the Queens neighborhood has been neglected for decades, and they are having a really hard time getting anything done about it.
As CBS2’s Andrea Grymes reported, the windows at the house are boarded up and part of the back of the roof has completely collapsed. Debris litters the yard.

Maybe Donna Reed will walk by it, throw a rock at the boarded up window, and make a wish and own it some day.
After doing some research on the house, the propertly looks like it's 35-20 167th Street, Flushing, NY. There are some earlier CBS reports on the house. It was reported the owner left after a divorce decades ago. House is blurred out on Google Street View.
I think the city should sue the pants off the owner OR fine him $5,000 per month. He will flip that property real quick.
Tony Avella is good, but instead of grandstanding as he always does (and then still really gets nowhere as does his grandstanding (and abbreviated) election campaigns for higher office) he should start to take steps to institutionalize the things he talks about - he needs a website, for example, that
- not only displays stuff like this,
- but specifically outlines the failure of every institution,
- and elected official,
- to let a travesty like this continue
... as well as a failure of the Queens media to cover it.
The city HAS the power to condemn it for safety reasons.
Hmmmm...,LOL...,,strike a match and make a wish!
Sadly I've got one of these around the corner - burned down, it'll be 3 years now, this June. Was vacant and squatters started it. A shame too, because it was a lovely one family detached.
Strangely, no one's swooped in to scoop it up, despite the lot size, and the fact it's a corner property. At this point I wouldn't even care if a MU 2-4 family complex replaced it, as it's been so long - something productive needs to be there instead of the burnt-out eye sore it's been.
Seemingly nobody can figure out who owns the place, and it's not on anybody's records.
Go to ACRIS: She deeded the house to him, he took a huge mortgage and left town. Screw the neighbors.
City should buy it and turn it into a homeless shelter. That will teach those pesky neighbors.
This is getting strange. Doing more digging, the one that "owns" the house is Robert Gezelter. Googled the name in which the result was "Robert Gezelter Dsgn Software", the design software business address was 35-20 167th Street which is the address of this abandoned home.
This link notes that neighbors know the owner as Robert:

A search of the address reveals:

That's probably the owner. If he checks on the property there's got to be more of a story behind it. It says he has experience in litigation, maybe he keeps it as a cover for his true whereabouts because he's scared of being tracked down after testifying against someone. Or for tax purposes in relation to his business.
If it was just boarded up several years ago he's probably just trying to keep it sealed off to remain compliant. If you want it razed, keep it unsealed and gather daily time-stamped photo evidence that it is unsealed so 311 can't write you off. Or just burn it down yourselves, but then you'll probably end up with a charred mass next door instead, but maybe that'd be more preferable for you.
Yea right get Avella and the bingo club involved. What you will get is everything green cleared, a big box and for the cherry on the cake all the street parking gone.
Institutionalize what things Avella talks about ?
That fascist gag bill on intenet speech "right to be forgotten bill" for example ?
A state law where any speech some politicians, somebody dont like must be removed, and making blog and websight owners responsible for being his private police ?
No thanks, NO new laws or bright ideas please !!

Family across the street from him sold out after the father died in 2012. The youngest son said “at least we don’t have to look at that dump anymore” The father said there was a foot of water in the basement.
