Continuing the fight against scaffold blight

From PIX11:

There are more than 280 miles of scaffolding all around the city— and one city council member is renewing his push to help bring down as much of it as possible.

The scaffolding and elevated sheds are designed to protect pedestrians from construction and crumbling facades.

However, with almost 8000 buildings wrapped in scaffolding, City Councilmember Ben Kallos said what it comes down to is many landlords just leave the scaffolding up instead of laying down cash for necessary repairs.

“We should not see scaffolding sitting with no work getting done for seven days, and they need to get the work done within six months of the city will step in and do the work and make the bad landlords pay,” Kallos said.

Kallos pushed for the new law last legislative session but ran out of time. He will reintroduce the bill this week, pledging to continue the fight.

These elected officials are always pushing bills (some which there are already laws on the books for many issues), BUT as usual, who the fuck will enforce them. The problem in this city is not the law or rules, it is the ENFORCEMENT of said laws/rules.

What the fuck don't you get asshole elected officials.

THE CITY COUNCIL HAS NO COJONES TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. IT'S ALL OVER THE CITY BUT SPECIFICALLY DOWNTOWN. NOTHING WILL BE DONE UNLESS THE GOVERNOR INTERVENES AND WE KNOW HOW THAT GOES.

Best of luck enforcing that. They'll get to it right after cleaning up the illegal conversion issues, right?

Well the city council has to at least "look busy"

Attention people - Joe Crowley has emerged from a back room of donors to help us - and according to him you are all wet - totally off target here. Naw, your biggest program is poor mail delivery cause the Republicans muck up government. Now if you vote for him you can have our city council types run the entire damn country. And we all know what that means. Read on and please, do not disturb others with your laughing. We all know what Democrats can do for the welfare state, illegals, and infrastructure. Afterall, he IS working every day for you! Besides, SOMEONE had to replace National Lampoon.

Dear Friend,

As a Congressman, my job is to make sure that our government is working for you.

That's why I sent a letter to the United States Postal Service last week demanding improvements to delivery service in Queens. It's unacceptable for mail to be delayed by weeks, especially when so many New Yorkers rely on the postal service to deliver their social security benefits, prescriptions, and other critical mail.

But I know these issues with the Postal Service are only a symptom of a larger problem.

Residents of Queens and the Bronx are suffering because of the Republicans' inability to effectively govern. As your Congressman, I see these impacts every day, from people who need help applying for benefits only to have their applications unnecessarily delayed, to families living in constant fear of losing their health care. In Congress, our neighborhoods are my priority, and I'm working every day to help residents of New York's 14th Congressional District.

As Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, I also know how much more Congress could accomplish if we had a Democratic majority in the House. From expanding access to affordable health care, to protecting immigrants, to investing in our transportation and infrastructure, we could really start making the advancements this country needs.

That's why I'm fighting to elect more Democrats across the country. We need a government that functions and we need Representatives who fight tirelessly to make sure their constituents have access to the resources and services they need. The good news is a Democratic majority can be a reality if we work together.

Will you help me win back the House?!

Best,

Congressman Joe Crowley

At least you get some cover from the rain and some shade when spring comes.

Blight? Have you seen someone killed by falling debris? That's worse.

Generally the sites are dormant and the scaffolds just left there.
