Fresh Meadows hotels to debut after the holidays

From the Queens Chronicle:

With the work fence around the Marriott Courtyard and Fairfield Inn hotels in Fresh Meadows gone, they’ll soon be open to guests.

A spokeswoman for the hotel chain told the Chronicle that they are expected to open in January, although she declined to give a specific date.

The two six-story buildings are on the westbound Horace Harding Expressway between 183rd Street and Booth Memorial Avenue. The total number of combined rooms for the hotels is 218.

Awesome! Two more homeless shelters.

Visiting professors? Do they come by the multitudes?

Wouldn't this have been better if it opened right now with Thanksgiving this weekend and Christmas and New Years, oh don't forget Hannukah and Kwanza, just a month away. This makes no business sense at all for a massive hotel chain.

Unless it's because, as is obvious in the past 4 years, that it's more profitable to house homeless individuals and families.

And the city will start housing the homeless there on what date?

I'm not too excited about calling the opening of what's likely to be another homeless shelter a "debut."

Why are hotels being built when already established hotels are being turned into homeless shelters, including The Hotel Chandler on 31st street in mid-town (http://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2017/11/17/city-plans-to-use-swanky-midtown-hotel-as-homeless-shelter). AND why are so many built in the outer borough of Queens and OFF the beaten track to boot.

Eventually homeless will outnumber actual tax payers.

Keep on overburdening our inadequate transportation system with overbuilding. Meanwhile transit money has actually been cut from the budgets. Hmmmmm....we've all heard of road rage. Look forward to a new form of rage caused by overcrowded buses and trains. And the developers get tax abatements with the $$$$$$ that should have gone to public transport. WE ARE BEING CLUSTER FUKED ROYALY!

This was a BAD IDEA! I don't know what crackhead approved this.

Dear World, come to NYC with your whole family and no money or plans. The taxpayers will put you all up in new hotels for free, then find you free apartments!

Who is the owner or developer? It’s hard to be proactive when there is no one at whom to direct one’s concerns.

re: Dear World

This progressive thinker found that hysterical.

From my understanding last time I heard was that the owner is some chinese people. They wanted to build a hotel not too far from st johns because they wanted parents to be able to have someplace to stay while visiting their college kids. Its such bs! I hate this city with a passion! Glad that I am moving when my fiancé comes home from deployment!

It is so true that many people are coming to NYC from all over the USA looking for welfare and housing. I know this because I am a foster parent and take care of their children. Most of the kids are from a different state.

How do we find out who the owner is and what ties he or she has to local government? How does this get approved? I want to get involved but have no idea how.

Fresh Meadows Homeowners Civic Association President Jim Gallagher, who informed Community Board 8 members last week about the construction fence being taken down, is glad that people will be able to book rooms at the hotels in the near future.
He added that visiting professors who come to St. John’s University, which is not far from the hotels, for a lecture or seminar could stay there.
“It could also be used by parents coming for graduation,” the civic activist added

Typical Queens Civic Congress - did I say their top honcho is a Democratic District Leader?

Did anyone see their latest 'newsletter' - about as interesting with all that fine print as the medical advisory they give you with your prescription.
