It's becoming more clear that Maspeth High School discriminated

The principal
From the NY Post:

A Queens public high-school principal excluded 500 Catholic-school kids from a list of 4,000 students applying to get into his school, raising cries from furious parents of foul play.

While more than 4,000 eighth-graders applied for a seat in the school, its principal failed to forward all 500 applications from Catholic-school kids to the Department of Education for possible placement.

Maspeth HS is a “limited unscreened” school — one of 225 in the city — which gives admission priority to students who live nearby and attend its information sessions or open houses.

These schools send a list of those applicants to the DOE, which gives them priority in a “random” lottery.

The system is ripe for abuse by principals who want to exclude certain students or favor others, critics say.

Principal Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir told parents at a Juniper Park Civic Association meeting on March 16 he made a “clerical error” in omitting all Catholic-school kids from the list.

But Abdul-Mutakabbir told civic leaders in a prior phone call that parochial applicants pose a “problem,” Juniper Hill president Bob Holden told The Post.

“He said, ‘In all honesty parochial schools are a problem because many of the students opt out and don’t go to my school. That leaves a seat [empty] and it costs the school funding,’” said Holden, who called for an investigation.

500 APPLICANTS ! BS my but, clerical error. Lets hope he is not pushing a muslim agenda. We need more HS in queens, and this is a diservice to the community.

Were Muslim "refugee" students accidentally prioritized?

As it was stated in Animal Farm:
"All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others."

You are all, I hope, well aware that this self serving evil, hateful, racist employee of the all powerful "state" was just following the administration's priorities.

He will be transferred and given a raise!

This story will be swept under the rug!

So much for taking care of the children.

Another irony is that these students will be better off in a private learning institution!

All the teachers' union is concerned about is MONEY!!!

imagine if a white guy tossed applications out from a bunch of black kids

Racism. Discrimination. Anti-Christian. That's what's running through our public schools today. Will this principal be investigated? Does he allow Moslem students in with open arms?

The blood curtailing screams of RACIST,RACISM and FIRE HIM would drown out the Sirens of 9/11 if this principle were white.

I wonder what his plans were for the Jewish kids he excepted into the school

ironically he's catholic & learned in a catholic school
guess Sister Barbara Joseph did'nt beat him enough, or too much?
he's 1/2 irish - go figure
irish catholics need not apply

from jpc

Q: Which teacher influenced you the most?

A: My eighth grade teacher, Sister Barbara Joseph. She was the first teacher that took a strong interest in me. She was the first teacher who had regular contact with my parents, who forced me to stay for detention when I played around too much in class, and she had very high expectations for me. She made it her point that she was going to mute my behavior and make sure that I was academically focused.

Q: What would we be surprised to learn about Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir?

A: You would be surprised to know that I'm not Middle Eastern and that I don't have any Middle Eastern background. That's usually the biggest surprise, and that my mother's Irish and my father is from the Caribbean. And also that I have a dry sense of humor. I like to laugh and joke, although I come off as being very serious and stern.

Anti-Christian, Anti-America is almost everywhere you go in NYC especially educational institutions that receive government funding.
Obama had 8 years to make sure of this, and like healthcare do so much damage it cant be dismantled.
No doubt the guys a racist Muslim, those people have a global organized agenda. Part of it is to keep kids stupid and liberal, this way as adults they can be easily controlled, steered and hopefully converted to follow the Koran's teachings.
I wonder how many of those Catholic school kids were white girls with high scores...I bet most of them !!

Why is this tolerated ? Where are the protesters ?

The 500 names are being put back in and the lottery is being redone, right?

This is complete bullshit. If this happened to muslims or to illegals there would be riots, and everyone from the principal down to the janitor would be fired.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure the next "clerical error" with that principal is going to be requiring all girls to cover their faces and mandatory muslim prayers for everyone attending that school.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Muslims & Illegals (and black too) would riot. --burn the whole dam city down too like wee seen in Ferguson Missouri and South Central LA
However white middle class have no balls or have grown to old and beat to do that.
The rest are stoned, burnt out shit liberals like the mayor living who are OK with all this.
Its been planned genocide for year however only now people are starting to see the big boulder of death about to be pushed over the slope !!

Now watch these sheep go and reward the same democrats that are doing this with re-election. If this happens (and im sure it will) I'm moving to a red county in Texas or Mississippi

Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir is an original Irish name.

Curseshit Abdul-Mutafoker is not.

You see is simple.

I wonder what the DFPS thinks about this. Did he have a hand in this? We know how much he hates Maspeth. Just putting it out there.

No one is going to agree with me on this, but maybe the school thinks Catholic School students can continue paying tuition for the HS years. Yes, it appear they are discriminated against, and that's wrong, but if it's a good school and everyone wants to attend, there has to be some criteria, like letting the kids in who never could afford private school. Being familiar with the specialized HS app process, I thought about the kid who got the crap beat out of him for 8 years in zoned school finally having a chance to go to a safe school if he could score high enough on the exam.

Has anyone fact checked his story about his parents or anything else he's stated ? Other than that, his arrogance in this is appalling.

de Blasio is arranging revenge on those Maspeth people hard.
Its already started with cracked sidewalk ticket blitz
Maspethtonians now have the opportunity to stir up the biggest hornets nest ever and stick it up the mayors ass.
Taking revenge on people kids? racism ? And who knows what else some good civil right lawyers can come up with. If planned right that's guaranteed to make national news, raise hell to heads roll including the mentally ill mayor's (he is not only a racist, but not mentally fit for duty)

Do like the colored people did in the south Maspeth, give em all hell !!!

Julie B,

Do those parents who have children in a private school not pay their share of the school taxes?

Have parents been arrested and fined and punished for using a false address so their child can have a chance in a decent school?

It seems you are in favor of a school voucher program, I hope you voted for President Donald John Trump, and are supporting Betsie DeVos!

We have no such programs here in this city or state due to the teachers union.

We only have many failing schools with absolutely no accountability.

If we could eliminate the union, it would be a great day for students!

Your statements re-enforce my position.

Why did the child you speak of get beat up and bullied?

Because of a failing system with no accountability...

It sounds like he has a legitimate argument if there is a precedent for Catholic school children to not attend. But right, obviously because he is Muslim it is sharia law.

This post has taken a wrong turn!

If people were to read the previous posts and a bit of "googling", one would see that Mister Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir may have a Middle Eastern sounding name, HOWEVER from the occasionally respected Juniper Park Civic Association rag, "The Juniper Berry Magazine", Mister Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir states that "I'm not Middle Eastern and that I don't have any Middle Eastern background. That's usually the biggest surprise, and that my mother's Irish and my father is from the Caribbean."

So can we stop the on Muslim issue with this thread? I will be the first to be vehemently against Sharia Law and preferences for any and all religions, genders (one of the TWO!) etcetera etcetera.

I was actually the second post to infer a Muslim connection, but we learn (is that not what this story is about? learning?) that this Principal is NOT, in his own words not of Middle Eastern background. He was raised and educated in Christian Schools and has an Irish Catholic mother.

Can we find out what his religious identity is before we proceed?

Mister Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir may be well educated and have much life experience from the limited biographical information I have found and read. This does not preclude this individual from being an inept, fool at times.

This looks to be an issue of throwing your morals and convictions asunder in favor of progressive ideology, self advancement, "the easy way out", and following terrible administration's agenda right off the cliff...

It's revenge for the homeless shelter fiasco.
As far as the Principal is NOT being of Middle Eastern background I would take that with a grain of salt. Under Sharia Law believers are allowed to say, do anything, especially when living under "house of war". So what this guy says don't mean squat.
He could be a closet convert practicing Sharia Law like over 10 million others in this country. According to DHS reports Its turning out most your ISIS sympathizers are converts who were former Christians, abused as kids with a lot of hate directed at "houses of the cross".
It is for this reason watch lists now includes males over 50
We need the feds because any local investigations are sure to be rigged ones.

Wow, there sure are a lot of racist and ignorant statements based on a man's name.
Hopefully, none of you people had kids.

...and by the way, he excluded Catholic schools not Christians. Also, there are Muslim kids and black kids that go to Catholic schools. You people can't even follow your own logic.

At least this comment is not prejudice at all.

I also think this is revenge for the Maspeth shelter protests.

You are wrong. Finances are not a criteria for public education. That would make for quite a lawsuit.

Btw, being in a "specialized high school," which this one is not, is not a safe haven from violence.

You must not have children in the public school system, Julie. Or else you're just delusional.

(Sarc), even though the private school parents do pay taxes, they've always had the option to go to private school (or not) because they were willing to pay the toll. They believe private is better in every way and that's entirely their right. The bullied kid I mentioned was a hypothetical to illustrates all the kids who don't have a choice of elementary or middle school and have to go to an underperforming school if they live near one. No, I am not in favor of vouchers or Donald Trump. I'm just pointing out that a school with a good track record (as I presume Maspeth is or why would they have way more applicants than seats) can only house so many students. I am in favor of charter schools, which enable students who really want to go to school to be together in a safe environment. People who call them segregated schools have no clue that NYC has become the most (organically) segregated city in the US

Seriously, this blog is going downhill with the racist commentary.

Can we focus on all the actual crap the city government does and does not do for Queens? A story like this one is just bait for racial bullshit and brings no attention to the dozens of other bad things going on in this borough.

Anonymous said...

I wish the racist islamophobic conspiracy theories would just stop...
Mclealry no one reading this has the capacity to look deeper at the bigger issue: school applications.

If you read the article, the principal clearly dileneated his reasons which include the fact that catholic school kids don't usually accept the seats and end of screwing regular public school applicants.

It's not a "reverse racist" (whatever that means) incident, it's just a flaw in the bureaucracy.

Also, the horrible things people are writing including implying that liberals are soft and lazy is ironic because the Post profiles a kid who cried at his rejection letter. Talk about entitled lol

Anonymous said...

That''s not a "flaw in the bureaucracy" - it's a perverse incentive, and it still does not exculpate the principal from a charge of misuse of power as a public official under the attendant NY State laws if investigators are allowed to do their job and can't find compelling evidence to back up his suspiciously vague claim of a "clerical error". Just because the bureaucracy has problems does not mean he can kick down the public to cope with it and not be called to account.

They have a bunch of empty seats at Metro HS next Trader Joes....only 30 kids graduating this year out of 110. They had to move commencements from St Johns University to Christ the King auditorium.
