Addabbo wants Glendale shelter to be for veterans

From the Queens Courier:

The controversial plan to turn the abandoned warehouse located at 78-16 Cooper Ave. in Glendale into a homeless shelter appears to be moving forward, but state Senator Joseph Addabbo wants to make that proposal a little more specific.

If the city is going to make the site into a homeless shelter, Addabbo said, it should extend the facility to the homeless who have fought for this nation’s freedom.

Isn't the site suspected to be highly contaminated?

Let's see how contaminated this property is first Mr. Addabbo.

This is just plain idiotic.

Do shelters turn away veterans?

This is a sad attempt to quiet community resistance to placing the shelter in Glendale.

Who would be against veterans?

How about these useless politicians do something to help these veterans before they are homeless?

Addabbo is shameless.

Addabbo and his staff are idiots. He argues that the site is contaminated and then in the same breath wants veteran housing there. Dump this hack!

The only other veterans' shelter I know of in Queens is right next to FreshDirect in LIC. Is it moving on too, moving on to Glendale? That land is very valuable if you are of the tower-building sort...or maybe they will build projects there...

I'm a veteran as well and have been fortunate. But have you seen the likes of some of the homeless veterans? And the crime and violence they engender?
