Police busted what they believe is a tire-and-rim-theft ring in Queens last month amid dozens of such incidents in the borough, police sources say.
On Oct. 15, police officers from the 109th Precinct, which covers Flushing, Whitestone and College Point, arrested three men as they tried to remove rims and tires from a 2012 Honda parked at 21st Avenue and Parsons Boulevard, police said.
So far the three men, who all live in Brooklyn, have been charged with one incident.
But police sources said that investigators believe the men belong to a ring responsible for a series of similar thefts in Queens.
Over the past several months police say there have been dozens of incidents in Queens in which thieves stole rims and tires and left the cars on cinder blocks, police said.
The thefts have occurred in various neighborhoods, including Forest Hills and Kew Gardens.

112 St and 113 St near the GCP and Jewel Av have been hotspots for this crime. Also, Ascan Av near Metropolitan Av has been hit a few times as well.

This started happening around 2008 or 2009 if I recall right. The fact that the NYPD is only starting to notice a connection now is beyond ridiculous. What the fuck do they use that Compstat garbage for if they can't spot a trend like this?
Also very frequently happens to cars on 80th Road in Kew Gardens, the section by Austin Street that's the LIRR overpass. It's so common that I have also seen car owners leave notes in the driver-side window asking not to have their car window smashed/rims taken.
I've asked Councilwoman Koslowitz's office about police investigations into this a few times, but never any follow-up.
I did notice what I think is a police camera setup on a traffic light at the 80th Road/Austin Street intersection, but can't tell if it's a traffic camera/radar or designed to monitor the overpass.
