Stop blocking the sidewalk!

"Hi Crappie,

On 146-01 23rd Avenue in Whitestone, NY there's a driveway with a garage at the end of the lot.

This family always park their car(s) in that driveway leaving both gates wide open thus completely blocking the sidewalk consequently forcing pedestrians (children going and coming back to and from school, runners like me, people coming from supermarkets and laundromats with their shopping carts, people walking their dogs) to either take the street or to change sidewalks by crossing the middle of the block exposing them to an accident.

As many other New Yorkers they have no concern for the safety and welfare of others." - Whitestone Walker

You could jump over the fence...that might help

Anon No. 2:

Why?

Why risk injury due to someone else's thoughtlessness?

Typical Whitestone White Trash!

A quick, effective remedy?

Close the gates, snap a heavy duty padlock on it , and throw the key down a sewer.

They'll get the message. If not leave a note behind!

I would ask the owner to stop and if he didn't one could use an old lock laying around and put it on the gate in the closed position. That would teach them. :-)

Oh lets hope that someone does not vandalize the fence .....

When we hit this we just shut the gates. Far worse are the cars parked on sidewalks....

You could close the gates and chain or weld them shut!

let the air out of the tires.

Just close the gate. close it every day. If they don't get the idea after say, 2 weeks, use some zip ties to chain it shut.

you're being way too nice about this, and definitely don't count on 311 or anyone else to do anything about it.

welcome to nyc.

Close the gates and secure them that way with a bunch of plastic zip ties spaced every three inches or so.

kick in the fence when no one is looking...often....

Just keep closing the gate until they get the message.

This happens al the time. If I was walking down this street and came across this I would just shut the gates on the owner. Let him get off his ass if he wants them open again.
Problem solved.

Close the gate and put a lock on it.

Yes, any, or all the above mentioned suggestions will probably work, eventually.
I have a similar situation. In North Flushing on 149 Street my neighbor, who bought the house next door 2 1/2 yrs ago, drives and parks his car, Acura MDX in his driveway but just past the sidewalk, not all the way back or in his garage. In doing this he parks or drives tires on my lawn and causes damage to grass and compresses the soil. I've used aluminum lawn sticks but he keeps running those over. Next week I am putting steel garden posts. If he rubs against them he will scratch and damage his vehicle and these won't bend at all and if I put them down enough his tires won't go when hitting them.

"I have a similar situation"

Just put a few cinder blocks on your property line. If he tries to remove them remind him they are on your property and when he moved them he was trespassing.

If he thought you had a gun he might not be brazen. Get an NRA bumper sticker or something like it.

Yep...Whitestone-Malba-Beechurst...
"GOOMBAHVILLE"...home of the mouth breathers.

You don't have to go way out on Long Island to encounter White Trailer Trash.

Put an NRA sticker on your bumper and you'll get someone breaking into your car...just like they did with my neighbor...thinking he had a gun in his glove box.

What a chooch you are. Got a derringer in your pants?

Is it too passe to just speak to the owner?

Anonymous said...

Years ago, I had a similar situation with a neighbor. A two foot length of chain and a padlock solved the problem quite nicely.

If he don't do that, they ain't let him get out

This is a building code violation. Call 311. Ask to be transferred to DOB (or call them directly, 311 has a script they have to follow; who has that kind of time).
State the nature of the violation (driveway gate blocking sidewalk), give the specific address. Take note of the complaint or file number.
The inconsiderate clods should recieve a ticket within a few weeks.

Passive-aggressive much, Whitestone Walker?

Looks like someone doesn't know what passive-aggressive means, but thinks they do.
