D.A. Richard Brown has died

QNS

Richard A. Brown, who served Queens for 28 years as its top law enforcement official, has died, his office announced on Saturday morning.

Brown, 86, had been battling from complications of Parkinson’s disease in recent years and announced in March that he was taking a leave of absence until June 1, when he planned to formally resign the office. He handed over his duties in an interim capacity to Chief District Attorney John Ryan, his top deputy, who announced Brown’s death.

“Judge Brown — as he has long been affectionately called — was a public servant like no other,” Ryan said. “He topped a spectacular judicial career and was appointed the district attorney of Queens County in 1991 by then-Governor Mario Cuomo. He was proud to serve the millions of people of Queens for nearly 28 years and was re-elected to six terms in office.”

Will his replacement stay in office 27 years like Brown until 2046? Given the hacks running for the position it is a scary thought.

RIP Judge Brow, the last DA who understood that prosecution was the job... Now we’ll get a politician instead of a prosecutor

Ain't democracy great? Otherwise RIP.

You won't get a politician if you elect Greg Lasak, the only qualified candidate. But that's up to all registered Democrats to the do the right thing in the Democratic Primary Tuesday, June 25. No one else has a say in this election except the registered voters enrolled in the Democrat party. If you wait until November it's too late.

Who is Ladsak? And how can he win without county’s endorsement

Judge Brown was a decent guy as an individual but his stubborn refusal to abdicate the throne has severely affected Queens because it has made things difficult for Judge Lasak. Anybody involved in Queens politics knows that Lasak should have taken over that spot a decade ago. Lasak is the only candidate that has the experience and judgment to do that job correctly and Brown is the reason that Lasak is in the political fight of his life. Brown should have took a page from Manton's playbook. Once he got sick, Manton didn't cling to power; he threw a much younger man, Joe Crowley, into the spot. Of course, Crowley has never been the sharpest knife in the drawer but kudos to Manton for being a stand-up guy and looking out for the next generation. I'm not even a Democrat but I will say that Tom Manton was the LAST of the old school ward bosses. There will never be another like him.

Anon:Lasak has been around Queens County for decades. If you don't know of him, then you have no business talking about "County" because you know nothing. "County" is supporting a serial slut and homewrecker that has never had a real job in her life. Doesn't matter if it was Hevesi or Sliwa, the jizz is still dribbling.

For the record: Lasak, known politically in Queens Democrat politics (there's no other way to become a Judge here) is NOT and has NEVER BEEN a politician. The rest are hacks, yes, but not Lasak.

He should of been forced to resign after 8 years. We need term limits in these positions. Brown has kept Queens unsafe for decades. First Crowley and now Brown.

"Who is Ladsak? And how can he win without county’s endorsement"

You don't know who he is but you know that County did not endorse him? You're a shill for Katz.

"Former Councilman Lew Fidler found dead in porno theater?"

I couldn't find the name of the theater in any of the articles.

Care to source this?

:Former Councilman Lew Fidler found dead in porno theater in Queens"

Let's not spread rumors about a dead guy. Reports just said "Queens theater". Although the fact that they were so vague, they didn't specify which theater, whether it was a movie theater or something else.

Greg Lasak is the only candidate familiar with the Criminal Justice System. He was a judge in Queens Criminal Court and knows the system inside and out. He is also AGAINST the closing of Rikers Island. I will vote for him because he is a man of experience and not a political hack. Vote for Greg Lasak for District Attornery of Queens.

Crappy Queens politics as usual. Low life's who can't even lay back when one of their own dies. What a family.

One media outlet gave the address of the theater as 90-18 Astoria Blvd, a porno theater that the community has tried for years to have shut down. Are there other theaters along Astoria Blvd?

It was the Fair Theater on Astoria Blvd. An art deco gem that has been a porn theater for decades. It's now one of the last (perhaps the very last?) porn theaters in NYC, or anywhere else (the ones that home video didn't put out of business long ago have now been killed off by the internet). Really and odd and tragic way to go, and I'm sure troubling for his family. Condolences to them on losing someone who was mostly an admirable public servant.

Nice how all of you "Anonymous" posters like the comfort and anonymity behind your keyboards/ If you're going to spew crap, have the balls to put your name in front of it. I don't care who you're voting for.
