Attached house in Bayside becomes McMansion

Dear Crappie,

This house has been under construction since the summer. In the pictures you can see what once was and what is there now, near the corner of 46 Av & 216 St. Of course the new construction is totally out of scale with everything else nearby.

Mike in Bayside
They took an attached house and injected steroids into it. Reminds me of the infamous Elmhurst half-house.

Does anyone really believe this will be a 4-story one family house?

The Zoning Diagram for this supposed "1-Family" house says that there will be 3 dwelling units. Clearly, this is not going to be a one-family house!

When Bayside was being rezoned a decade ago this was one of the bones of contention that never got fixed - a small area of R4 zoning next to garden apartments. It was fine for the garden apartments to be R4, but the properties on the same block were not removed from the R4 zoning designation - R3-1 (semi-attached 1 and 2-family houses) would have been appropriate. The Department of City Planning would not budge, which was odd since they were open to doing this kind of splitting of blocks in other areas of Bayside as well as other rezonings later on.

The result? More Queens Crap in Bayside. Hooray!

That's no McMansion...it's a space station...turn the ship around...

The Mc Mansion portion looks better than the old attached portion, but the combination of both looks like crap!

"3 dwelling units"

I am sure they are building a "mother/daughter/ mother In law family home!

Plenty of big windows let in plenty of natural light. Lots of bedrooms and baths, and I am sure a nice walk in closet.

I wonder which unit the mother-in-law gets???

OMG ROFL That is so embarrassing!! Where is the law? Dept of City Planning should hang their heads low. It is clear to see that nothing but a bunch of nincompoops are running the show at DOB and DOP. I feel so sorry for the people who have to look at that, they should remember this next time the polls open.

Where else is all of china and korea going to live?

It's not a McMansion unless it's a cheap pre-fab.

I apologize for the double posting.

At the corner of Springfield Blvd. and 47th Road, there was a small house there for years. Now, there is this giant monster that looks as though maybe a King or Queen will reside in it. So so large and so very out of place.

Hotel maybe?
Times are tough.
More AirBnB rentals?

The house looks similar to the ones all around Flooshing.
Look out for illegal rentals, business of some sort being run out the house.
Gambling, sports bar, prostitution comes to mind.
Watch for industrial strength cameras being installed all around the property.
That's the telltale sign of something fishy going on.

gonna cram all those incoming 'D' voters in somewhere!

My G-d, what a monstrosity! I wonder what the (unfortunate) neighbor's reaction was when he found out?

Anonymous said...

Bollywood-type dwelling.. or people moving on up from Flu-Shing?

Anonymous said...

Shame shame shame on the DOP

The neighbor is thrilled because now he knows that he can sell his house to a developer too!

This is the trend and it cannot be stopped.
All the press conferences held by politicos and urban planning experts are powerless attempts to change developing history.
Keep on flailing your arms in the air.
It's good for your circulation.
Too bad. Ugly is an infectious architectural disease.

So , beautiful Bayside is becoming as ugly as Flushing.
We told you so, twenty years ago that it was coming and your denial and isolation has made it so.

Despite what people have commented about Bayside, Whitestone they are still the best neighbor hoods to live in compared to areas like Astoria, Sunnyside or Woodside. My money is on these two neighrborhoods.

The old attached portion does look like crap. It needs to be "upconverted" to match the clearly superior and new right portion. -Alfster

Strange set up. House actually owns strip to right giving it 5000 sf of land

Asians main focus is baby producing compared to white people with no children. Asians believe in eat, pray and love and white people believe in beer, tv and couch.

Lol asians believe in tax free, sale prices and cooking dogs and cats. They have no love for their "families" or else they would never kill their children for just being born as a girl.

Pray? Lol you've got to be kidding me!! I've never seen a Chinese or korean priest or pastor EVER in my life!! Half of china and korea are irreligious! Who the hell do you think you're fooling? The "churches" that they set up are all fake churches just so they can get tax write offs for everything. The "churches" only preach how to rip off the usa tax payers and how to get around the usa government for paying taxes. You've got to be freaking delusional if you think the asians are even close to "model minorities"!!

What makes you think they're praying to Jesus? Ancestor worship is a big thing for them - my neighbor burns Hell Dollars from time to time.

Good to see that snotty Bayside is getting shafted like Flushing has.
When asked to join a Flushing coalition 35 years ago to jointly battle irresponsible, out of scale, over development, they declined to join in.
" This is Bayside. It will not happen here".
Well, it has! Please enjoy!
What did one of those American Revolution patriots once say?
"If we don't hang together, we most assuredly will hang separately".
It's mighty lonely dangling from a length of hemp by yourself.

You are extremely myopic if you think that Whitestone and Bayside are immune from development.
Paul Vallone represents you. He is a developers' lobbyist. La Famiglia di Vallone ruined Astoria then they moved out.

The Vallones still live here as far as I know. I saw Peter outside his house just a month ago. He lives around the block from me.
