Knockdown Center really has no shame

Came upon this eyesore one fine morning in Ridgewood right near 1717 Troutman Street, which, as you may recall, was forcibly vacated in 2007, throwing hundreds of hipsters out on the street. (After some reno, it reopened as legitimate art studios in 2009.)

It's pretty amazing that one would do this to his/her vehicle.

However, only very special people would drive down in their PT Cruiser from the Land of Lincoln every weekend (heh) to sell junk at a defunct factory to a handful of people.

Of course, all "arts centers", like MOMA and the Met, advertise themselves way, so allow me to suggest a new strategy... Since your magic blue bus grew horns, perhaps this vehicle should also sprout one, à la Blues Brothers:

That should round 'em up!

Isn't that the Onderdonk House property across the street from the Illinois ad car?

Yes, that's behind Onderdonk House property. Ridgewood is being invaded by overgrown children with trust funds who want to spend a few years slumming it while pretending they're artists. This is the result. As they're allied with Roberta's, watch out. Nothing good is happening up ahead.

I think the public is wise enough to understand that these people are not real artists, and that old factory is not an art center. It's a club for hipsters who are growing bored with Bushwick after they ruined it. They contribute nothing to their communities except tbe same problems they've caused everywhere else. And the local council member is welcoming them with open arms. Let's hope voters in the area choose wisely tomorrow.

Come to the CB 5 meetings and you will meet plenty of people who have NO CLUE what is coming to Ridgewood.

There actually are a few real estate barons on the board who are salivating over a gentrified Ridgewood. If it hits Maspeth as well, all the better in their eyes.

Dear People of Queens,

Please do not let what happened in Williamsburg and Bushwick happen to you. DO NOT let these hipsters get a toe hold in your area, they will destroy it. They will destroy the peace and quiet, they will destroy your property with posters, flyers, graffiti and 'street art,' they will destroy whatever semblance of normalcy you have there. The rents will jack up sky high and there will be nothing but pretentious coffee houses and bars everywhere replacing your butchers, bakeries and delis. You will be forced to look at their pierced and tattooed, ugly bodies and listen to their mewling out-of-state, whiny voices. When the bars and club close at 4 am, you will have to deal with their drunken shrieking and howling in the streets. You will be run off the sidewalks by mobs of clueless hipster drones staring into their Google phones. Say goodbye to parking and clean sidewalks. These people are pigs. Do not let them open flea markets and outdoor music festivals, because by then it's already too late. Then will come the high rise condos and endless construction. If you want to get a firsthand look at the permanent destruction wrought by these arrogant, transplanted over grown babies, just come to Williamsburg on any weekend to see for yourself.

I would hate to see this happen to Queens, the borough I spent my teenage years in.

Urban Infidel,

In some areas of Queens, what you describe would, sadly, be an improvement.

Perhaps, but this isn't one of them.
