In the orient, pedestrian overpasses (bridges) are a common solution to this problem. Queens Blvd would certainly benefit from such an approach, except that pedestrian activists think it denigrates pedestrians.
Hahaha - its Jimmy No Bainer, a friend of the library board of developers, boon companion of Crissy Quinn (who has the same value system of the locals .. not) and generous fellow to developers (who will bring in yet more traffic) - and of course, supporter of a school - along the waterfront.
They are too busy painting the bike lanes to replace any of the markings for the streets. Its not only the crosswalks but also the lane markings on the streets as well.
I put a complaint to 311 about this in College Point and they come back with a repsonse that it will be repainted when future painting contracts are awarded, but it is never repainted.
Or, in other words, he's doing what every other elected official should be doing - pointing out something of concern to his constituents, regardless of his sincerity. He's doing his job
Or, in other words, he's doing what every other elected official should be doing - pointing out something of concern to his constituents, regardless of his sincerity. He's doing his job --------------- Its a photo op. Jimmy doesn't give a crap for Archie & Edith's grandkids.
He has absolutely nothing in common with them.
Being a library insider speaks volumes about the man.
I think that's the point of the photo op. If Jimmy stops doing it, he'll be the only elected official in either party who stops doing photo ops. Let's get real here.
Bridges are a good concept, but in reality where do you put them? Whose property do you have to take to put in the landings? Most sidewalks along Queens Boulevard aren't that wide.
There's another issue as well - ADA. You'd have to put in elevators as well.
You must be a paid hack - your next job is political office cause you are completely missing the point.
The issue is not doing the photo op (well, lets see Jimmy show up for a photo op where there is an abuse by a developer or the like. How about walking around Dutch Kills for starters. Fat chance.)
The point is to show up not out of concern, but simply to keep the sheep in line with a display of concern.
The point is, like your average Queens pol, and in his case in particular, in his heart he could not give two shits.
He has nothing in common with his constituents. It is virtually certain that the situation will sit unrelieved over the winter.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods. A look of concern, officious tone to his voice .... and attention on resume building.
Do you think this guy really cares?
The fact is this guy has nothing in common with his district except the accident of birth.

Does it call attention to the issue?
Then the photo op has done its job.

FOR WHO, JIMMY? THE POINT IS TO HELP THE PEOPLE, NOT GRAB HEADLINES.
GO BACK IN 6 MONTHS AND YOU WILL FIND THE PROBLEM UNCHANGED.
