Who knew it was this bad?

That's disgusting.

What is the news here?

Everyone knows the city wide preservation community's rules are written for Brooklyn Heights (which means its useless to the other 90% of us), and the better heeled communities that get the attention and advice don't give two shits for everyone else.

This is what happens when there is no effort at preservationists around the city to work together and help each other.

As for the local politicians?

Owner occupied housing, like lawns and two story buildings are things regarded with horror and distain. You can’t tweed a lawn and owners in your community actually expect services instead of rhetoric. And outside of a developer, who would give a dollar to pay the campaign to reelect those losers?

To them community preservation is building blockbuster senior warehouses on former church sites so they can empty out those rent stabilized apartments.

NY at the forefront of social justice? My ass.

The city is a backward joke like an old whore with powder on her face that can hardly conceal her stench.

you pretty much describe the outer boroughs 'as is', or 'will be'.

Give building inspectors the power to bust illegal conversions and mattress houses.
Throw out the Bloomberg ZOG mob making $$ off all the human garbage.
I have a house on Seneca Ridgewood is turning into a real cesspool.

At the light on Seneca A mother with 3 in tow pulled a little girls pants down and was pointing to "do her buisness" by the street light and some garbage bags.
I doubt you can even do that in Mexico !

gross - probably the same corner her mother "does her business" on too.

Where is DOB or Bloomberg on this building?

Okay, I live in Ridgewood and love it. This story is a damned shame.

I'm not sure re: the angle of some of these comments, though.

Missing Foundation: You are basically upset that your postwar single-family home isn't protected in a historic district? I get it, you want zoning changes to protect teardowns but that's not really the issue here.

Anonymous(es): I live in Ridgewood too and love it. You've got 2 subway lines, can buy most everything in the neighborhood on-foot, and there's some really historic and beautiful buildings (yes, and also some bland vinyl siding), a few good bars and restaurants. Folks are generally pretty nice. There are also some really nice $1100 apartments, and great landlords (mine for instance).

...I think the take-away from this story is that slumlords can own Mathews Model Flats as well as regular tenements.

2 subway lines ?
ONE !!
I dont know how long you living in Ridgewood but:
The "L" is a subway, the "M" is known as the "El" or Myrtle ave "El" depending
The Mathews Flats have always been a target of Slumlords, Sputnics and Euroshit buyers ever since the Germans started taking off in the mid 70's.
Those people must have killed 1/2 the trees in Ridgewood and inflicted some heavy damage destroying wrought Ironwork and installing lots of cheap bright Home Depot "bling"

I have a 2 family Stier on Seneca and Norman. I rent to working class Polish family's.
Some Puerto Rican neighbors (good ones) I get along with BBQ and drink with them when I come in to do weekly maintenance. Nice people

Notice the empty Tyskie polish beer carton in the first shots of the basement
