I'd like a room on the runway, please!

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Developers are being sought for plans that would turn the vacant TWA terminal at Kennedy Airport into the centerpiece of a boutique hotel.

The once-glamorous terminal was designed by modernist Eero Saarinen, whose works include the St. Louis Gateway Arch.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey envisions a 150-room hotel in the space between the old TWA terminal and the new JetBlue building.

Executive Director Chris Ward tells The Wall Street Journal that the plans could result in a hotel with the “hippest, coolest-looking front office.”

The agency says construction could finish two years after a developer is signed.

Some hurdles remain. The TWA terminal is a New York City landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

a hotel is a nutty idea .the noise level would be unbearable to try to sleep there.where would one be able to walk around? in the parking lot,in the garage, on the roadways ?

the food prices are to expensive at the airport. and then take the airtrain to Jamaica. who are we kidding?

maybe sadie khan will set up bike lanes on the roadways on JFK airport?

would you ever believe that two hotels were built next to the sanitation truck parking lot on nassau exp. ? the stink driving past is unbearable, especially in summer time.can you imagine what the unknowing travelers put up with staying there?

"a hotel is a nutty idea" I disagree.
Now members of the mile high club with big bucks can really have a layover. I bet they rent by the minute at the ultimate hot sheet hotel in the world. I want the laundry contract.

Best of luck, but there is just no use for these old works of architectural art from the early Jet Age. Take pictures. Document it. Then tear it down and keep JFK updated the way it needs to be.

airport hotels are extremely convenient for business travelers, short trips, etc. I think this would be great, and long overdue for nyc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there a number of hotels by the airport already?

Maybe Genting and the Aqueduct casino folks would be interested.

there are airports nearby, but one that is actually on airport property, that you can walk to from inside the terminal (w/o even going outside) is entirely different.

great building. glad it's seeing new life. bravo to the hotel idea...lots of international travelers get stranded. probably would be a nicer place to stay than those ratty places by jfk.

You can always kill time by sleeping on the Air Train, back & forth. Back & forth. Heat in the winter; AC in the summer.

It's a great idea. I've stayed at an in-terminal hotel while stranded at the Vancouver Airport, and it was fantastic.

(Orlando and San Juan airports also have hotels in their terminals. I'm sure there are many other examples.)
